Chaos unfolded in the bottom of the sixth inning in Pittsburgh on Sunday as benches cleared between the Pirates and White Sox following a collision at home plate.

That collision resulted in young Pirates star Oneil Cruz leaving with what looked to be a serious injury.

Have a look at the play.

With Cruz on third base and no outs, Ke’Bryan Hayes hit a ground ball to third base that resulted in a play at the plate. That play involved a late, awkward slide by Cruz that resulted in him being injured and needing help off the field.

White Sox catcher Seby Zavala and pitcher Micheal Kopech took exception to the slide, prompting Pirates first baseman Carlos Santana to step in. At that point the benches and the bullpens cleared. It was more shoving than punching, but it was still very heated.

The big concern for the Pirates is going to be the status of Cruz as he looked unable to put much weight on his leg as he was helped off.
