UNCG Baseball Falls to Gardner-Webb in Pitching Duel

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to Gardner-Webb, 3-1, in a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday evening.

Daniel Cerda hit his third home run of the season in the top of the ninth for UNCG’s only run of the game. Cerda went 2-for-3 on the day, hitting the Spartans’ only hits of the day.

How it happened

It was a pitcher’s duel with both teams going scoreless for the first three innings.

Gardner-Webb scored first putting two runs on the scoreboard off a RBI double from Nate Anderson and a sacrifice fly to the center field from Pete Capobianco.

The fifth and sixth innings went scoreless as Price King pitched three innings allowing zero runs and only two hits.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs added one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Capobianco scored off a throwing error for a 3-0 advantage.
