Samford Takes a 4-2 Win Over UNCG Softball

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Samford, 4-2, during game three of the series on Sunday afternoon.

Blayke Batten homered in the bottom of the third for her seventh blast of the season and 18th of her career.

UNCG is now 26-17 overall and 5-3 in SoCon action, while Samford is 18-25 overall and 7-5 in the SoCon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With runners in scoring position in the top of the first, Samford’s Grier Bruce fouled out to right field and Blayke Batten threw a laser to the plate. Delaney Cumbie was there to make the play on McKayla Cothran who was tagging up from third for a double play to end the inning.

Both teams stranded two runners on in the second inning, before the Bulldogs used six hits and an error to take a 4-0 advantage in the top of the third. UNCG cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame.

Brooklynn Maxwell singled to center field with one out and Batten connected on a 0-1 count sailing the ball over the left field wall for a two-run homer, 4-2.

Neither team scored in the remaining innings, as Samford held on for the 4-2 victory.

NOTES:

Chartrand went 2-for-3 at the plate with her fourth double of the season.
Batten went 1-for-3 with two RBI and her seventh home run of the season.
Maxwell and Grace Loftin each had a hit.
