UNCG Softball Takes Two Victories Against Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team took two wins against Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Chattanooga on Saturday with scores of 4-3 and 1-0 at Frost Stadium.

The 1-0 victory was the Spartans’ eighth shutout of the season.

UNCG is now 28-18 overall and 7-3 in the SoCon, while Chattanooga is 21-21 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

GAME 1: UNCG 4 – CHATTANOOGA 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maddie Spell retired the first three batters of the Mocs with two of them being strikeouts.

In the top of the third, UNCG loaded the bases after singles from Tori Dalehite, Brooklynn Maxwell, and Jorde Chartrand. Maycin Brown then singled to left center driving in Dalehite and Maxwell for a 2-0 lead.

The Spartans doubled their lead in the top of the fourth, 4-0, with two outs and the bases loaded as Delaney Cumbie singled to left field bringing in Grace Loftin and Jaden Cheek.

The Mocs responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs on two hits cutting the deficit to two, 4-2. Keylon homered down the right field line to add another run for the Mocs in the bottom of the fifth, 4-3.

Spell then retired seven-straight batters from the fifth to seventh, before Jorde Chartrand came in relief and struck out the final batter with the bases loaded.

NOTES:

Brooklynn Maxwell went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored and a walk.
Maycin Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.
Delaney Cumbie went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Maddie Spell struck out six batters in 6.2 innings.

GAME 2: UNCG 1 – CHATTANOOGA 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chattanooga had six hits, to UNCG’s two hits in the game.

The Spartans loaded the bases in the top of the fifth for the first time as Dalehite walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Maxwell then singled to third base for a first and third situation. Cumbie walked to fill the final base and after the second out, Brown walked to score Dalehite from third, 1-0.

Rhyann Jones tossed 7.0 innings, allowing six hits, no runs, and struck out two batters.

NOTES:

Maxwell went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Dalehite also went 1-for-2 with one run scored and a double.
Brown had the lone RBI.
The Spartans totaled six walks.
