UNCG Baseball Falls In a Tight Battle to BYU, 13-11

PROVO, UTAH– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell in a tight battle against BYU, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon at Miller Park.

Dosi Jonas hit his 11th home run of the season in the top of the fifth. Jonas went 2-for-5 at the plate and was one of five Spartans with multiple hits.
GC Jarman was 2-for-5,Daniel Cerda went 2-for-5, Kennedy Jones swung 2-for-6, and Dallas Callahan went 2-for-2.

Dallas Callahan hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to tie the score at six, which scored Mitchell Smith and Jarman.

Jones and Caleb Cozart both had two-run home runs in the top of the eighth closing the gap to one, 12-11.

How It Happened

With Daniel Cerda on third, Jonas hit a RBI single to left field for the first run of the game, 1-0.

BYU took the lead after putting four runs on the board in the bottom of the first, and then added another run in the bottom of the second for a 5-1 advantage.

With the bases loaded, Bradley Bott singled to right field scoring GC Jarman from third in the top fourth to cut the deficit to three, 5-2. Jonas’ solo homer in the fifth added another run for the Spartans, 5-3.

The Cougars’s Parker Goff was walked with the bases loaded to extend the lead back to three, 6-3.

UNCG regained the lead with a four-run sixth inning behind four hits and one error. Jarman and Smith each had a single to lead off the inning. Callahan’s homer tied the game at six and then Zack Budzik doubled to right center for a 7-6 advantage.

BYU tied the game at seven in the bottom of the sixth. A five-run seventh inning for the Cougars, which included a grand slam from Austin Deming game BYU a 12-7 advantage.

UNCG came within one with its second four-run inning in the eighth off of three hits. BYU sealed the win with a home run by Cooper Vest in the bottom of the eighth that gave the Cougars a two-run lead, 13-11.

UNCG returns home and will host High Point on Tuesday, April 25 with a 6:00 p.m. start time at UNCG Baseball Stadium. This will be a Bark in the Park event presented by All Pets Considered.
