CHATTANOOGA, TENN.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team swept its second Southern Conference (SoCon) opponent of the season behind a 10-2 victory over Chattanooga on Sunday at Frost Stadium.

Sophomore Jessie Shipley had her second game this season with multiple home runs, bringing her total to nine blasts on the season.

The Spartans had 10 walks this game. This is the most walks in a game since a 3-2 win over ETSU on April 15, 2022. With the 10 walks, UNCG now has 217 walks this season, which is a new team single season record for walks. The Spartans had 216 walks in 2021 which was the record.

UNCG is now 29-18 overall and 8-3 in the SoCon, while Chattanooga is 21-22 overall and 4-8 in the conference.

UNCG loaded the bases right away in the top of the first inning as Brooklynn Maxwell, Delaney Cumbie, and Maycin Brown all walked. With one out, Grace Loftin sent a fly ball out to center field giving Maxwell time to tag up from third for a 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, Chattanooga tied the game at one as Olivia Lipari singled up the middle driving home Emily Coltharp from second.

After a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth from Samantha Lagrama, Rylie Williams who pinch ran for her advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and ended up crossing home on a two-run home run from Jessie Shipley.

Cumbie led off the top of the fifth with a double to right center and with two runners on Loftin also doubled for a 5-1 advantage. The Mocs responded with a run in the bottom of the frame as Kaili Phillips hit a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit back to three, 5-2.

The Spartans were selective at the plate scoring three runs on one hit, four walks, and one hit-by-pitch in the top of the sixth for an 8-2 lead.

UNCG concluded the game with two more runs in the top of the seventh off Shipley’s second homer of the game and an RBI single from Salem Ward.
