Pride earn 30th win of the season with shutout sweep of Brevard

Greensboro, NC – In a unique game at home that saw the Greensboro College Softball team host Brevard College but bat as the away team, showcased the strong pitching and hitting the Pride of been producing all season. When all was said and done. Greensboro would earn their 30th win of the season defeating the Tornados, 9-0 and 10-0.

Game One

The Pride wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Senior Kassie Simmons (Gibsonville, NC) doubled to right field to score two runs and that was followed by multiple RBI’s from Sophomore Kelsey Craven (Ramseur, NC), Junior Alexis Sox (Burlington, NC), Junior Ivy Ray (Thomasville, NC) and Simmons, again, to jump out to an early lead 8-0. Greensboro would get an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning when Senior Kailey Walker (Eden, NC) hit an RBI single to score Senior Brooke Kinley (Lexington, NC) to earn the Pride the win, 9-0.

Greensboro was led by Walker who finished 3-4 with 3 RBI’s and a run, while Simmons went 3-3 with 3 RBI’s and a run. Simmons also earned the win on the mound.

Game Two

The Pride continued to score runs in the second game as Walker scored on an error, while Sox hit an RBI double. In the fifth inning, Kinley hit an RBI single and then in the sixth inning, Sophomore M’Kenzie Davis (Greensboro, NC) and Walker combined for 3 RBI’s after they both hit doubles. Greensboro would seal the game in the seventh inning when Craven, Senior Jenna Endsley (Concord, NC) and Walker each brought runs across the plate to earn the win 10-0.

Walker finished the game going 3-4 with 3 RBI’s and a run, while Craven, Sox and Davis each went 2-3. On the mound Junior Lauren Engel (Huntersville, NC) earned her 17th win of the season.

The Pride will return to action on Saturday, April 29th as they host William Peace at Penn-Wright Stadium at Barber Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm and a special Senior Day ceremony will be held prior to the start of game one.
