UNCG Baseball Tops High Point, 5-2
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team edged non-conference foe High Point with a 5-2 win on Tuesday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium. This was the second-straight win over the Panthers for the Spartans. UNCG defeated High Point 13-4 on April 4, 2023 at Williard Stadium.
Dosi Jonas hit his 12th home run of the season and 14th of his career in the bottom of the fourth going 3-for-4 at the plate today as the only Spartans with a multi-hit game.
Price King pitched 3.1 innings allowing only one hit and no runs for his first-collegiate save.
How it Happened
High Point took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, as Cole Singsank was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the first tally and then Josh Deslauriers hit a sacrifice fly to right field for the second run.
UNCG cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second when
GC Jarman stole second and the Panther’s catcher overthrew the ball allowing Jonas to score.
Jonas’s home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth tied the game at two. The Spartans were then able to put two more runs on the board in the same inning with
Dallas Callahan’s RBI fielder’s choice and
Bradley Bott’s sacrifice fly to take UNCG’s first lead of the game, 4-2.
The Spartans kept the Panthers scoreless in eight out of the nine innings and UNCG put up one final run in the bottom of the eighth as
Zack Budzik scored from third on
Caleb Cozart’s double play, for a final score of 5-2.
