Pride take two from Brevard on Saturday

Brevard, NC – The Greensboro College Baseball team began its final regular season series on the road on Saturday afternoon against Brevard College. Both teams entered the series looking to solidify their position in the upcoming USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. The Pride came into today having won four of their last five games and were looking to keep that momentum going in the doubleheader and they would do just that, winning both games by scores of 5-0 and 5-1.

Game One

Senior Sam Peddycord (Kernersville, NC) took the mound for the Pride and his team was able to give him plenty of support. With the game tied 0-0 in the top of the fifth inning, Freshman Evan Sykes (Graham, NC) hit an RBI double to score fellow Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) for the first run of the game. Sykes would end up scoring, along with Sophomore Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL), when Senior Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) hit a three-run home run over left field, increasing the Greensboro advantage to 4-0. The Pride would pick up an insurance run in the eighth inning as Sophomore Myles Vacharasin (Land O’ Lakes, FL) came to the plate and singled in Senior Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) to secure the win 5-0.

Peddycord picked up the win, pitching seven scoreless innings, striking out six, while only giving up five hits. Offensively, Greensboro was led by Edmonds who finished 2-3 with a run and Morehouse who had a home run with 3 RBI’s and a run.

Game Two
The Tornados got on the board first and they would stay on top until Gardner hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Junior Drake Carrick (Lexington, NC) in the top of the seventh inning, evening up the game at 1-1. The Pride would take their first lead of the game in the eighth inning when Vacharasin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Hayen to cross the plate. Edmonds would then score on a Freshman Avery Bishop (Tampa, FL) sacrifice fly and in the ninth inning, Edmonds singled in Junior Adam Weber (Mebane, NC) to increase the lead and eventually win the game, 5-1.

Sykes, Hayen and Carrick each finished the game 2-5, while Edmonds was 1-4 with an RBI and a run, while also coming in to earn the save., after Senior Jake Baldini (Clemmons, NC) and Sophomore Cam Watts (Kernersville) had a great day on the mound.

Greensboro will be back in action tomorrow for the final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
