UNCG Softball to Challenge Non-Conference Rival Charlotte

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team hosts in-state and non-conference rivals Charlotte 49ers for a Tuesday evening game at UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans enter the contest 31-19 overall, while Charlotte is 29-18 overall.


UNCG went 2-1 against SoCon foe Mercer in Macon, Georgia this past weekend.
The Spartans won game two, 7-3 in nine innings, and game three, 7-4.
Rhyann Jones pitched her seventh complete game for her 10th win of the season in the extra inning win.
UNCG had its 17th multi-home run game of the season.
Maddie Spell earned the other victory for the Spartans in the circle.
Brooklynn Maxwell led the Spartans with a 6-for-12

Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .362 batting average.
Chartrand also leads UNCG with 76 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 91.2 innings thus far.
While pitching in conference games, Jones leads the Spartans with 33.1 innings thrown with a 2.31 ERA.
Brooklynn Maxwell is second with a .340 batting average and has stolen six bases to lead the team.
Delaney Cumbie and Grace Loftin lead the team with 13 doubles each.
Jessie Shipley paces the Spartans with 34 RBI.
Maycin Brown leads UNCG with 10 home runs each.
Rhyann Jones is 10-2 in the circle and leads the team with a 2.59 ERA.
Maddie Spell has nine wins (9-5) and has tossed a team-best 102.1 innings.
Nationally, the Spartans are: first in walks (231), 11th in double plays per game (0.50), 19th in total home runs (60), 23rd in home runs (1.20), 54th in scoring (5.28), 56th in doubles (64), 57th in slugging percentage (0.448), 72nd in on-base percentage (0.371), 76th in win-loss percentage (0.620), 81st in shutouts (8), 85th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.13), and 87th in doubles per game (1.28).
UNCG is leading the conference in 10 categories including: double plays per game, doubles, doubles per game, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage, and walks.
Delaney Cumbie is second nationally in walks per game (0.96), while Samantha Lagrama joins her in the top 35 and is 31st in walks per game (0.70).
Cumbie is 41st in on-base percentage (0.503) and 46th in runs per game (0.94).
Spell is 48th nationally in walks allowed per seven innings (1.30)
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week twice so far this season, while Spell has been voted SoCon Pitcher of the Week twice, and Jones earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week once and Jorde Chartrand was named SoCon Player of the Week most recently.


Charlotte has won the last two games, defeating Louisiana Tech 8-1 and 3-1.
The 49ers are currently in the top two teams of Conference USA with its 14-6 conference record.
The 49ers are nationally ranked 10th in home runs per game (1.34), 20th in double plays per game (0.47), 23rd in fielding percentage (0.976), and 32nd in slugging percentage (0.482).
Sam Gress is 22nd nationally in victories with 18 in the circle and 24th in innings pitched with 169.1.
Gress has a 1.90 ERA in the circle to lead the pitching staff. She has pitched in 16 complete games with one save.
Bailey Vannoy is nationally 38th in home runs (13), and 53rd in home runs per game (0.28).
Vannoy is leading the team with 41 runs scored.
Kassidy Krupit is pacing the 49ers with a .397 hitting percentage.
She has a team-best 12 doubles and 42 RBI.
Nine from the 49ers have double-digit RBI with four of them with 20 or more.


Charlotte is 45-37 all time.

The two teams met earlier this season, where the Spartans won 4-2 in Charlotte, N.C.

The win capped UNCG’s nine-game win streak this season, matching a nine-game streak from last season between March 20-April 3.
