UNCG Softball Shut Out by Charlotte, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to non-conference rival Charlotte on Tuesday night, 3-0, at UNCG Softball Stadium.

Brooklynn Maxwell had two of the Spartans’ five hits in the game. She went 2-for-4 at the plate.

UNCG is now 31-20 overall, while Charlotte is 30-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The 49ers loaded the bases in the top of the first threatening, but Salem Ward struck out the final two batters keeping Charlotte scoreless in the first.

Ella Chancey led off the top of the second with a solo homer to left center to give the 49ers a 1-0 lead. Following three-straight walks, Bailey Vannoy reached on an RBI fielder’s choice doubling the score, 2-0. The 49ers extended their lead to 3-0, scoring on a passed ball in the top of the third.

Sam Gress, in the circle for the 49ers, held the Spartans scoreless for all seven innings, allowing five hits and walking two batters.

NOTES:
Maxwell extended her on-base streak to 11 games.
Salem Ward struck out three batters in the circle.
Jorde Chartrand struck out four batters in the circle.
Grace Loftin, Maycin Brown, and Jaden Cheek each had a hit in the game.

ON DECK
UNCG concludes the regular season hosting Southern Conference (SoCon) opponent Western Carolina this weekend for a three-game series. The Spartans and the Catamounts will open the series on Saturday, May 6 with a doubleheader and a first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. at UNCG Softball Stadium. Prior to the game on Saturday, there will be a first pitch thrown out by a family member from each of the three seniors.

They then will play a single game on Sunday, May 7 with a first pitch at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game on Sunday, UNCG will recognize its three seniors.
