UNCG’s Nick Lyerly Named to SoCon All-Conference Golf Team
SoCon Announces All-Conference Men’s Golf Teams
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s golf team saw graduate student Nick Lyerly named to the Southern Conference (SoCon) All-Conference team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
This is Lyerly’s fourth All-Conference nod of his career. He was also named the 2022 SoCon Men’s Golfer of the Year, as well as to the 2018 All-Freshman team. He is the first in UNCG men’s golf history to earn the recognition. The Salisbury, North Carolina native was voted to the 2018, 2019, 2022, and now the 2023 All-Conference teams.
Lyerly paced the Spartans this season with a career-best 70.73 stroke average in 30 rounds of play. He concluded the season with three top-five finishes, four top-10 finishes, and seven top-15 finishes.
At UNCG’s own Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in February, Lyerly was the individual champion shooting 12-under-par (204) at Hammock Creek Golf Course in Palm City, Florida. He shot one-under par (71) on the opening round, and then posted a career-low round of eight-under-par (64) during round two. He concluded the collegiate three-under-par (69) in the final round to capture his eighth-career individual title.
During the fall semester in October, Lyerly was the runner-up at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. He was eight-under-par (208) after three rounds. He made par (72) during round one and then was two-under par (70) and six-under par (66) to conclude the intercollegiate.
Lyerly is a three-time Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Academic All-American and earned 2022 GolfWeek All American honor.
This season, the Spartans had eight top-five finishes out of 10 team results. Two of the eight were team titles, including UNCG’s own Grandover Collegiate and the Wake Forest Invitational. The Spartans were also runner-ups at the Bearcat Invitational and Advance Golf Partners Collegiate.
