Baseball’s season comes to an end at the USA South Tournament

Rocky Mount, NC – The Greensboro College Baseball team opened the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday in Rocky Mount, as they faced Pfeiffer University in the opening game and then later in the afternoon, the Pride would face host North Carolina Wesleyan University in an elimination game. Unfortunately, they were unable to come away with a win, falling to the Falcons by a final score of 6-2 and then the Battling Bishops, 5-3.

Game One

In the game against Pfeiffer, Greensboro fell behind early in the third and fourth innings but were able to get on the board when Senior Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) hit a solo home run to left field . Sophomore Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) helped add another run with an RBI single but that is all the Pride could get as they fell 6-2.

Edmonds finished the game 2-3, with an RBI, run and a home run, while Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) added a double.

Game Two

In the elimination game, Greensboro had to fight back from two runs down and were able to tie the game when Freshman Evan Sykes (Graham, NC) homered to left field scoring Gardner. In the sixth inning, NC Wesleyan went back out in front by two runs, until Freshman Louis Berini (Bahama, NC) scored on a wild pitch, but the Pride would not score again and fall to the Battling Bishops, 5-3.

Gardner finished the game 3-4 with a run, while Berini went 1-2 with a run. On the mound, Senior Jake Baldini (Clemmons, NC) pitched the entire game, striking out five batters.

With the two losses Greensboro finishes the season with an overall record of 19-21, while finishing 13-7 in the USA South.
