GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team concludes its regular season by hosting Western Carolina at UNCG Softball Stadium this Saturday and Sunday.

Prior to the games on Saturday, our three seniors Delaney Cumbie, Samantha Lagrama, and Ashley Gontram will have family members throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Prior to the game on Sunday, we will recognize Cumbie, Lagrama, and Gontram.

The Spartans enter the contest 31-20 overall and 10-4 in SoCon play, while the Catamounts are 19-20 overall and 8-7 in SoCon play.

Following this weekend’s three games, the SoCon will announce the 2023 SoCon Tournament bracket.

LAST TIME OUT

UNCG fell 3-0 to in-state non-conference foe Charlotte on Tuesday at UNCG Softball Stadium.
Brooklynn Maxwell had two of the Spartans’ five hits in the game.
She went 2-for-4 at the plate.
She extended her on-base streak to 11 games.
Salem Ward and Jorde Chartrand struck out three and four batters in the circle, respectively.

QUICK SPARTAN HITS
Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .353 batting average.
Chartrand also leads UNCG with 80 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 97.1 innings thus far.
While pitching in conference games, Jones leads the Spartans with 33.1 innings thrown with a 2.31 ERA.
Brooklynn Maxwell is second with a .344 batting average and has stolen six bases to lead the team.
Grace Loftin leads the team with 14 doubles, while Cumbie is second with 13.
Jessie Shipley paces the Spartans with 34 RBI.
Maycin Brown leads UNCG with 10 home runs.
Jones is 10-2 in the circle and leads the team with a 2.59 ERA.
Maddie Spell has nine wins (9-5) and has tossed a team-best 102.1 innings.
Nationally, the Spartans are: first in walks (233), 12th in double plays per game (0.49), 19th in total home runs (60), 25th in home runs (1.19), 47th in doubles (66), 62nd in scoring (5.18), 63rd in slugging percentage (0.444), 79th in on-base percentage (0.369), 80th in doubles per game (1.29), 81st in win-loss percentage (0.608), 81st in shutouts (8), 98th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.06).
UNCG is leading the conference in 10 categories including: double plays per game, doubles, doubles per game, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage, and walks.
Delaney Cumbie is second nationally in walks per game (0.94), while Samantha Lagrama joins her in the top 35 and is 35th in walks per game (0.69).
Cumbie is 52nd in on-base percentage (0.492) and 55th in runs per game (0.92).
Spell is 50th nationally in walks allowed per seven innings (1.30)
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week twice so far this season, while Spell has been voted SoCon Pitcher of the Week twice, and Jones earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week once and Jorde Chartrand was named SoCon Player of the Week most recently.

SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA

The Catamounts most recently split with N.C. Central, winning 9-2 and then losing 7-5 in Cullowhee, N.C.
Western Carolina has won seven of the past 10 games.
Western Carolina was voted to finish fourth in the conference.
Bailey Huneycutt and Brooklynn Brewington were voted to the Preseason All-Conference first team, while Myra Twitty was voted to the second team.
Nationally, the Catamounts are ranked 39th in hit batters (15) and 67th in fielding percentage (0.969).
Brewington is 44th in the nation and leading the conference in stolen bases per game (0.51).
She is also 55th in the nation and leading in the conference in runs per game (0.93).
Brewington is leading the team with a .389 batting average (56-for-144), while Huneycutt is second on the team with a .378 batting average and Natalie Henry has a .315 hitting clip.
Twitty paces the Catamounts with nine home runs.
Huneycutt has a team-best 36 RBI. Four other Catamounts have double-digit RBI.
In the circle, Tessa Juett has thrown 107.2 innings this season, striking out 104 batters.
She is 8-9 overall with 12 complete games, one save, and three shutouts.
