Final Score from the Wednesday afternoon game at First National Bank Field:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 15, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1
WP:Anthony Solometo(1-3)/LP:JJ Goss(1-2)

Hoppers-15-11-0
Hot Rods-1- 5-3

Greensboro Grasshoppers(22-19)
Bowling Green Hot Rods(18-21)

The Greensboro Grasshoppers took an early 1-0 lead, in the bottom of the first inning, and from there, the Hoppers just kept on laying the lumber…The Grasshoppers got back-to-back HR’s from Mike Jarvis and Hudson Head in the fourth inning, and at that point, the home team was up, 5-0…Then with six more runs in the fifth inning, and the fifth was highlighted by Eli Wilson’s Grand Slam home run, and as the game went to the top of the sixth inning, the Grasshoppers had found themselves in front, 11-0…It became a blowout kind of day, as Greensboro added one more run in the sixth, and then they tagged on three more runs in the seventh, and by the top of the eighth inning, the Hoppers were on top of Bowling Green, 15-0…The Hot Rods broke up the shutout with a run off of Hoppers’ reliever Jake Stevenson in the eighth, and that is how your final score became, Greensboro Grasshoppers 15, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1…

Like we were saying, a very big day at the plate for the Hoppers’ Eli Wilson…Eli had found the Elixir, that Eli Elixir was producing a HR, a Double, a Single, and a Walk for Wilson on this Wednesday, with Eli scoring two runs, and driving in five runs…Wilson was 3-4 at the plate, and he was just a Triple shy of hitting for the Cycle…Steak n Shake Player of the Game honors for Eli Wilson today…

The Grasshoppers starting pitcher, Anthony Solometo, picked up is first victory of the season, and Solometo went six innings, allowing 0 Runs, on 3 Hits, with 1 BB/6 Strikeouts…Very impressive outing by Anthony Solometo today, and earned his Steak n Shake Player of the Game recognition…Solometo had run support from the get-go, but he always worked like he was in a bind, and he was fine tuning his game, but still working through all of his challenging situations in this game…Solometo probably could have gone seven innings, but he finished his work in the sixth inning, his pitch count was still just at 72, so you have to think the Pittsburgh Pirates want to limit their starting pitchers to just six innings or less, while it is still fairly early along in the season….

Those two guys, Wilson and Solometo stood out to me in this game, and for Bowling Green, I would tab their top player as Nate Soria, who is a position player(catcher), but he came in to pitch so he could protect the Hot Rods bullpen, and Soria got the last out in the seventh, and then he took down the Hoppers in order in the bottom of the eighth inning….Soria threw just 10 pitches over his 1 1/3 innings, and of his 10 pitches, 8 of them were going for strikes, with his fastball coming into the plate at around 58 mph, and his changeup rolling over at 46 mph….Soria just threw the baseball right over the plate, and let the Grasshoppers go after it, and they did, but Soria was letting the Hoppers put the ball in play, and then he let his teammates back him up, and make the defensive stops, and they did…It looked simple, and it was, and it worked…

For the Grasshoppers, along with their big day from Eli Elixir Wilson, they got those solo home runs from Mike Jarvis and Hudson Head, plus overall Jarvis went 2-2/HR/BB/SB/4 Runs/3 RBI…Very productive day for Jarvis, and we better see if we can find him a Shake, from Steak n Shake…Big Day for big Will Matthiessen going 3-4/BB/2 Runs/2 RBI….The biggest days for the Hoppers came from Wilson, Jarvis, and Matthiessen…Plus give Ernny Ordonez a shoutout for his 1-4/2 Runs/2 RBI afternoon…And Hudson Head had a fairly straight line with his 1-4/BB/2 Runs/RBI…

As you can see, the Hoppers offense was on its game on May 24, 2023…
(The Hot Rods leading hitters were Bob Seymour and Jeffry Parra, who both went 2-4 at the plate…Nate Schnell scored the only run of the game for BG, and Junior Caminero drove him in…Caminero has 31 RBI this season.)

On top of the hill, Solometo was the main man on Wednesday, and he just stood out, and that’s all there is to it…He was in a league of his own, and he sure showed out…That got us to where we are now, Greensboro Grasshoppers 15, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1, and our work is just about done, but let’s say it one more time, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win, Hoppers Win Again…
