Was on the Morning Run this morning and could not help but think about that scene from the old Andy Griffith Show…Andy and Barney were sitting around talking, and they had a guest that evening at Andy’s home, and it was Mr. Tucker…Mr. Tucker was stuck in Mayberry after his car broke down, on his way to Charlotte…
This was one of those magical moments on the Andy Griffith Show, and it featured a line that I shall never forget…Andy and Barney are killing time on Sunday night, while Mr. Tucker waits at Andy’s house, hoping he can get his car fixed before Monday morning…
So, Andy and Barney are talking, while they are killing time, and Barney says to Andy, “You know what I am going to do, I am going to go down to the drugstore and get a bottle of pop…And then I am going to go over to Thelma Lou’s house and see what she is doing, and then I might just stop by the jail, and see if Otis showed up”…That’s what I am going to do….
And wouldn’t you know it, Andy tells Barney that sounds like a great idea…So, then Barney comes back and repeats the same thing he just said…..
“You know what I am going to do, I am going to go down to the drugstore and get a bottle of pop…And then I am going to go over to Thelma Lou’s house and see what she is doing, and then I might just stop by the jail, and see if Otis showed up”, yeah, that is what I am going to do…
“I will just go down to go down to the drugstore and get a bottle of pop…And then I am going to go over to Thelma Lou’s house and see what she is doing, and then I might just stop by the jail, and see if Otis showed up”….That’s what I will do….
After hearing this repeated declaration for the third time, and hence becoming very frustrated with this repeatious sounding off from Barney, Mr. Tucker takes over the situation and he tells both Barney and Andy, Don’t just talk about it, “Just Do It, Just Do It, Just Do It Man”….JUST DO IT!!!!!
Mr. Tucker beat Phil Knight and NIKE to the promotional table…Mr. Tucker, from back on the old Andy Griffith Show, created and owns the rights to that line, “Just Do It”…..
And remember that line, and it came straight from Mr. Tucker, “Just Do It, Just Do It, Just Do It Man”….JUST DO IT!!!!!
It all comes into focus, after our Morning Run…Somebody will ask one day, “Must have been too hot out there for you to be running this morning”….Then you stop, think about it for a second and then reply….No, not too hot. You just have to set you mind to it, and “Just Do It”….From Mr. Tucker, on the Andy Griffith Show, and don’t you know, it is still the same way today…
On those real hot days, when you need to get in around 6 miles of running, you will not get any work in, if you just sit around and think about it…You have to “Just Do It, Just Do It, Just Do It Man”….JUST DO IT!!!!!
Then when you are through it, you can say you were able to, “Just Do It, Just Do It, Just Do It Man”….JUST DO IT!!!!!
There you go, and with that being said and done, we have another successful Morning Run segment in the books…
