Northeast Guilford Rams over Morehead tonight, and that sets up a major meeting at the Bill Bookout Stadium in two weeks…Eastern Guilford at Northeast on Friday September 15…Northeast Guilford(3-0) won tonight, and Eastern Guilford did not lose tonight, since the Eastern Guilford Wildcats did not play tonight…EG and NEG in just two weeks, and EG(2-0) has a tough one coming up next Friday night, when the Western Alamance Warriors(2-1) roll into Gibsonville…(And a quick reminder, NEG 28, Morehead 7 this week.)
And another reminder, Eastern Guilford is a dadgum tough (2-0) football team…..
Northwest Guilford has found themselves, and they discovered who they are in a big way again tonight, as the Vikings charged past WS Reynolds, 48-17…NWG QB Tanner Ballou with three more TD passes for the Vikings, with two of his touchdown tosses going to Trenton/Trent Cloud…NWG making some noise and the Grimsley Whirlies are listening…Michael Fanning with his Whirlies Report here at the website, and ready for you tonight/this morning….

The Word of the Night should go to the Western Guilford Hornets…WG got their first home win in three years tonight…WG 35-6 over the Southern Guilford Storm, at the Doug Henderson Stadium, right there on the Joe Robinson Field, right near the Bill Hollifield Gym, with the Mickie Tuttle Court…I was there and I saw it…It was like ANDY Night at the old football field, as the Hornets decided to play some excellent Winning Football with ANDY in the House, there at “The House that Doug Henderson Built”….
WG going with Bryson Strand at QB during the first session, and then switching to the freshman, Caleb Moore in the second half, as the Hornets’ signal caller…Timothy Baker was the big touchdown-maker for the Hornets, and he led them in rushing yardage….WG playing some inspired ball on this Friday night…WG was looking across the field at their assistant coach from last year, Rodney Boykin, with Coach Rodney Boykin now in charge of the Storm from Southern Guilford HS….
Winning Football now back at Western Guilford, and GreensboroSports.com was there to see it happen…Southern Guilford has a full-time freshman QB in Seth Davis, and this is not the Seth Davis you see on TV talking college basketball, there on CBS…SG’s Seth Davis, is a promising young Guilford County quarterback, and Davis had some real nice hookups with his receiver Haiden King, in this game…Southern Guilford also got solid running, from their top RBs, in Zion Johnson and Alex Anderson….
Seth Davis is going to be OK…Caleb Moore from Western Guilford is going to be OK…Faison Brandon, the young sophomore quarterback from Grimsley is already OK…Tanner Ballou from NWG is doing OK for himself at QB again this season…Andrew/Drew Attmore II is also doing very good for himself at QB this season…And don’t forget Jackson Jones, and the job he has done for Eastern Guilford…I almost forgot him, but I remembered his name just in time…
The QBs seem to be stacking up 1)Attmore, 2)Ballou, and 3)Brandon so far this season…That is just the thumbnail sketch of the top three QB, in GC/Guilford County….Jackson Jones and other QBs, like Devin Hackstall, there at High Point Andrews, are looking in wanting to get in on this race….The thumbnail sketch on Faison Brandon, the Grimsley Whirlie, shows the kid has grown up fast, and for is QB status, the thing that stands out the most, is his ability to run….Got to be able to cover the air and the ground, and this kid can cover both….
As we were saying back up towards the top, GreensboroSports Radio was at Western Guilford tonight, and we had Nile Harris as our analyst…Might have been the best radio debut I have ever seen/heard from a young broadcaster…Nile has a style, that will carry you a mile or two, maybe even further…America’s Got Talent, well this kid Nile Harris has talent, and we are going to use him again soon….
CLICK HERE to hear Nile Harris and ANDY from the Western Guilford-Southern Guilford game on Friday night….Good stuff, and great stuff coming from Nile Harris, the son of Ron ‘Bug’ Harris, and the brother of Amon Harris…Nile Harris, former Grimsley Whirlies football player, and former four-year football player for the Richmond Spiders….When you Click On at GreensboroSports Radio, be sure to CLICK ON the Western Guilford-Southern Guilford game link…
Our Steak n Shake Players of the Game, from the Western Guilford-Southern Guilford game…Timothy Baker on Offense, and The Western Guilford front seven on Defense….
MORE on the way, and we are really just getting started in here…Stay tuned for MORE….
Let’s look back at the Touchdown Tally from the Western Guilford-Southern Guilford game….

5:36 Second Quarter:WG’s Timothy Baker on 59-yard TD run…PAT fails…WG 20, SG 6
1:27 Second Quarter:WG’s Bryson Strand flies up the sideline on a 65-yard TD run…Cortez PAT kick is good…WG 27, SG 6
Halftime:WG 27, SG 6

4:07 Fourth Quarter:WG’s Caleb Moore on a 18-yard TD run and the Two-Point Conversion failed…WG 35, SG 6
Dboyz scored 151 points in the first 3 non conference games. Let’s see how long that stands because it’s happened before I guess.?
Sorry Southern and Western might be the two worse football teams I’ve seen in Guilford County in a long time.
Southern very, very young, mostly freshmen and sophomores, and there true story won’t be told until maybe two to three years from now…
Western is much improved, but they will have to rise up to be competitive in the Metro 4-A…Western hardest task right now is to keep the players they have in WG uniforms..They have some some very good ones, that I hope don’t move away….Young fresh QB and some others…Timothy Baker is a good RB…Saw him back in Middle School, and he can get it done…
ANDY
Right @ ANDY “move” away…
Are you saying you want me to move away, or do you think the Western Guilford players will be moving away???
I attended WG, was half-way decent in football, and did not move away….There is no reason why the other kids there now should not stay too…They need to stay on, and be part of a building process….
It takes time and you have to see it through….Kids and their parents need to be more patient, and let the building take place..Back you current coaches and help support them and give it time to work…
I live in the Grimsley district and this is where I would go to school, if I was still in school…You are supposed to go to school in the district you live in…Just my humble opinion…
ANDY
Andy, your words are spot on. Commitment to a program is something that’s lacking in HS sports. Cannot find success long-term if constantly trying to find the greener grass – that isn’t always greener. A truly talented player can make a program shine regardless of record or coaching staff. Kids need to understand that moving to a “winning program” might not give them playing time or what they are seeking. And that winning programs can’t be built if athletes are always jumping ship. Dedication is sticking with it in the ups and the downs. And from my experience, I thought the best part of playing HS sports was being on a team that I helped to build. “We before me” needs to return…
I say AMEN to that…Back in the day at Western Guilford we had a community school, where every kid in that community wanted to be a part of that team…When we started winning, it couldn’t be stopped..We used to average 7 wins a season, every season back then….Had guys like Mark Guenther, Herbert Pressley, and Don Tatum, John Morris, and they were getting offers from Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Tennessee, North Carolina, N.C. State and others…I got an a verbal offer from Bill Dooley at North Carolina my freshman year in high school, and that is no lie…He came to our Spring Sports Banquet and spoke, and he told our coach Doug Henderson, that he wanted that boy/me if he kept growing…Had to have him…Well I did not get any taller, but I did put on 50 pounds of muscle while in high school, with the Universal Weight Machine as my best friend…And did not go to North Carolina or N.C. State, but did get my 75% ride to Liberty University, which was Liberty Baptist College back in those days…
(I see all of these kids getting those offers from Liberty today, and just kind of chuckle, as it brings back some memories.)
We used to beat Grimsley back in those days, played them three times while I was at Western Guilford and beat them 2 out of 3 times…We would beat them today, with the crew I was with from back then…That is just the way it is…
Bottom Line said is, you put in the work, you will be successful at anything you do, no matter where you are doing it….
That being said, many say today is a different time, and you can’t go back and do it the way you did back then….Hard work, commitment, and dedication never dies…
We would be better going back, and then go forward all over again…And do it the right way…
The reason things are being done the way they are today is because we sat back and let this happen….It looks good on the surface, but it has become a system of the Elite get Meat…It is all about Eliteism..
If that is a word…Eliteism, and we have made these high school kids out in many cases to be Five Star Superstars, but there is a big difference from doing it on the high school level, to doing it on the college and pro level….
Hard work never dies and it needs to be done by more than just a handful of players…40-MAN roster, 40-MAN buy-in….
Community Schools are dead??? They don’t have to be….Be real, and bring back the OLD DEAL….We have let many of our founding principles go by the wayside…
I was there, and I am still right in the thick of it today…I know from whence it all cometh…Over 50 years in this business, and still have not seen it ALL…..
Full disclosure on my college football career…Was not good at all…Went hog wild after my senior year in high school…Sort of went off the deep end when I didn’t make either the East-West All Star football team or the old North-South All Star Team….Old North-South game was played in Greenville, N.C.
Any way, by the time I got on the college football field, I had let my career go down the tubes…Too many bad decisions, bad choices, and not doing the job on the way there…My old coach, John Cartwright, said he brought me in to be the All-Time leader in tackles at the college, but it sure didn’t happen, because I threw it all away…
Should have stuck to work plan I had back in high school, but eased up…You can never ease up….There is no final whistle…You go till you can not go any/no more…
Some good advice for you…Don’t worry so much about those personal goals and accolades, but see the long-term photo, and go for the four full years of college football, get on the field as much as you can, and your your resume will shine for LIFE….
Good example of this is Preston Jones, an assistant coach down at Southern Guilford HS…He went to high school at Southern Guilford…Stayed in his community and played high school football at Southern Guilford…Went to college and played college football at the University of Alabama(WR), as a Walk-On….He has those Alabama National Championship Football rings on his fingers…He has maybe three of them, mabye more….
Preston Jones, from Southern Guilford HS, has those rings, because he played college football at the University of Alabama….He told me, that many times his football game week was Monday-Thursday, but he was on the team, he was part of the team, and he has the National Championship rings to prove it….
Now go tell me that wouldn’t look good on your resume….
It is out there, it can be done through a community school, now go do it for the old Black and Gold….Moms and Dads, start Local, stay Local, as they used to say on the FOX 8 News…..
I share all of this with you today, because I think it is good information….Have been there, and done that, and I still remember that little piece of paper they sent me in the mail, to sign and send back, and that was my College Signing Day….
It all is there, but the work starts today, and does not stop till the plug is pulled….
And on Preston Jones while at Southern Guilford HS…The SG Storm had very good teams back then, and Preston Jones is trying to bring all of that back…Great young man, with a purpose….
