What a night it was over at the Page High School Marion Kirby Stadium tonight…Maybe not the cleanest games you have ever seen, but boy talk about a Battle, as these two schools, Page and Northwest Guilford were locked up in a good old-fashioned slugfest…This was one those games that was going down to the wire…NWG up 7-0 after one quarter….Game tied up at 7-7 at Halftime…Still tied at 7-7 after three periods…And then with 3:36 left in the game, there in the four quarter of regulation, NWG goes on a game-winning drive and the Vikings score on third-and-goal from the Page seven-yard line, with just 1:05 left in the contest…Just sixty-five ticks left on the clock, NWG’s Tanner Ballou connected with his primary target, #2 Trent Cloud for a 7-yard TD pass…The PAT kick by Caleb Trogdon was good…And somehow, Northwest Guilford topped Page, 14-7, and the Vikings claimed the victory in this hard-fought football contest…
NWG now at (4-2) overall and (2-1) in the Metro 4-A Conference…Page now sits at (2-4) overall, and also like NWG, Page is at (2-1) in the Metro 4-A Conference standings…Next week Page at Western Guilford, and Northwest Guilford at Northern Guilford….
The 2023 Homecoming Queen at Page was Anastasia Hamlin, and Siena Coker was crowned the Pirate Queen…Homecoming 2023, at P-A-G-E….This was the place to be, and what a game we got to see…

If Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner was here right now, he would say, “Hollar If You Hear Me”, and you no what, we might just yell the same thing right back at Scotty, “Hollar If You Hear Me”…..That pass on the game-winning 3:36 drive for Northwest Guilford, with that play….You know, “The Play” that got NWG down to the Page 13-yard line…You know “The Play” where NWG QB Tanner Ballou takes the snap, and he hands the ball off to NWG WR Ryan Hammock on an end-around jet sweep, but Hammock runs four steps, then he steps and heaves the ball to a WIDE open Trent Cloud…The pass thrown by Hammock was in the Clouds, and I wasn’t sure if that football was ever coming down, and Hammock did underthrow Cloud, but Trent came back and made the catch, and that right there ladies and gentlemen, was the Play of the Game…It looked a little shakey going it up, but sure turned out sweet, as it came down….
Ballou-to-Hammcok-to-Cloud….And that play led to the Ballou to Cloud game-winning pass from 7 yards out, on third-and-goal from the seven…Some kind of fantastic finish…But wait, and you may say wait/weight is what broke the wagon, but the Page Pirates took that ensuing kickoff and the Pirates drove past mid-field led by their junior quarterback, Nigel Hinson, and like he had done all night long, Hinson got Page moving with runs by Maurice Andrews, pass receptions by Amonti Peguese and Kasai Poindexter, and some nifty runs by the Page Pirates little scatback, Elijah Jones….Jones was running like a little wildman out there, and was batting balls down on defense too…
Page got great pass hook-up with Hinson to Poindexter for the Pirates only score of the night, as Poindexter started out going in motion from right-to-left and then he broke loose flying up the left sideline and hauled in a 41-yard TD pass for the big Page score…That Poindexter grab for six, tied the game up, once Page got their PAT kick from Santiago Garia, and it was, and stayed at 7-7 for much of the night….
And after NWG scored what appeared to be the go-ahead touchdown, and then that turned out to be the game-winning touchdown, the Page Pirates would not pack up and jump off the Ship…With just 57 second left to play in regulation, Page really was moving the ball, with Nigel Hinson leading the move, and Page took a play out of the NWG playbook, when the Pirates had Hinson hit Kasai Poindexter on a pass to the right side of the field, and Poindexter lofted a pass intended for Pierson Murphy, but the pass/ball was picked off by the NWG Vikings’ junior DB Brendan Darrah…We had Ryan Debow back there around the pick, and for the most part, Debow did his job in leading the NWG Defense to the win column…(Ah, the double-pass, with Poindexter being just behind the line of scrimmage when caught his pass from the Page QB Hinson.)
The play by NWG was successful, but Page could not duplicate what the NWG Vikings were able to pull off…And no Overtime, but we did come pretty close, and we still feel like this was one of those Game of the Week, Game of the Month, and Game of the Year candidates…Lots of flags on the field, and NWG was hit with multiple false start and illegal motion penalties, but this game was what you looking for in a close contest candidate….This passed all the tests/checked all the boxes, and was it a close game????? You bet it was and Northwest Guilford was very happy to be driving away from Alma Pinnix Drive tonight, with a Win…

We also saw some great plays tonight, as we were watching and listening to the Friday Football Fever Show…No problem, for Dudley’s Kordell Bartley, as he took a punt return back to The House……Bartley looking good wearing his #5 jersesy and leading the Panthers to the Finish Line…From the Friday Football Shows we were hearing good games from Jaxson Kemp for the NG Nighthawks, who won at Southwest Guilford tonight….Friday Football Fever, and the FOX 8 Friday Football Fenzy, were shows that were packing the fans into The Houses……
With all of the Mud settling, who are the players that will lead the Guilford County Schools teams, as both groups need some build-up prior to next week’s Friday Football Shows….Big Friday Shows for all next week, as we rack ’em up and hit the fields of football, once again…Make sure to get me my pregame facial so I am on my overall best looks game, as we roll into The Roscoe next Friday night….
Best of luck to all of our teams for next Friday, with NWG at NG set to become a large battle, but we all know who follows the Wars, so just to make sure, are we going to see Four Teams from the Metro 4-A going into the postseason playoffs, and we might miss on the four, but then again we will take what we can get….And the postseason is just a few weeks away….Grimsley, Dudley, Eastern Guilford, Northwest Guilford, Northeast Guilford, and more for us here, and the Guilford County staff report is underway…..
