Below are three quick takeaways from Grimsley’s 55-0 win over Western.
1)Solid quarterback play again from Fazion Brandon. On time throws and perfect ball placement allowed for Whirlies wide receivers to catch balls over and around Hornet defenders. Brandon’s first touchdown was to Kaden Catoe from 19 yards out to open the scoring and then finds Taylor 27 yards out on his second TD throw of the first quarter. Brandon would end with over 200 yards passing and three TD passes
2)Grimsley defense creates three first half turnovers including a scoop and score. At the start of the second quarter, Grimsley linebacker Ty’quairis Hayes recovered a fumble and took it 15 yards the other way for a touchdown. The defense created problems all night for Western as they only had 115 yards for the game.
3)Too many flags. Whirlies penalties added up in the first half, backing them up and making for harder conversions. Holding, false starts, and procedure penalties all erased positive plays and often put the Whirlies behind the sticks..
