UNCG Women’s Basketball to Host Elon for First Ever Contest in Greensboro Coliseum
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in program history, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team will compete in the Greensboro Coliseum by hosting Elon on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
The UNCG men’s basketball squad will take on the Phoenix in the Greensboro Coliseum at 4:30 p.m., following the women’s contest. Purchasing a men’s ticket will get fans into the women’s game.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
The Spartans most recently faced No. 24 North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Despite a hard-fought battle, the Tar Heels were able to come out with the 81-66 win in Carmichael Arena.
The Spartans outscored the Tar Heels 25-14 in the second quarter, to trail by only two at the half, 36-34.
North Carolina responded in the third frame by starting it off with a 15-2 run for a 15-point lead over the Spartans. However, UNCG came back with a 12-5 run to cut the deficit to single digits, 61-56.
The Tar Heels secured the win in the final quarter by outscoring UNCG, 20-10.
Kennedy Simpson went 5-for-5 in three-pointers to match her single game career record.
Isys Grady led the team in scoring with 17 points.
Antoniette Emma-Nnopu led UNCG with eight rebounds.
Khalis Cain followed closely behind with seven boards.
UNCG posted 27 points off the bench to North Carolina’s 11.
The Spartans recorded eight steals, while North Carolina posted six.

The Spartans come into Sunday’s matchup 6-3 overall.
UNCG is undefeated in Greensboro at 5-0 in Fleming Gym.
The last time UNCG started off 5-0 at home was in 2018-19.
Prior to Wednesday’s loss at Chapel Hill, the Spartans had won their last three matchups.
The Spartans lead The Southern Conference (SoCon) with a 1.06 assist/turnover ratio and an 8.9 steals per game average.
Jayde Gamble leads the conference with 27 steals and a 3.00 steals per game average.
Ayanna Khalfani leads the Spartans with three double-doubles on the season.
Gamble stands atop UNCG with 107 points. Khalfani follows closely behind with 100 points.
The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll, trailing ETSU, Chattanooga, Mercer, Wofford and Furman and coming in front of Samford and Western Carolina.
Isys Grady was named the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after her efforts in the 2022-23 season.

Elon comes into Sunday’s contest 2-6 overall.
The Phoenix leads the CAA in points off the bench per game with a 24.6 average.
Maraja Pass leads Elon with 63 points and 25 assists.
Iycez Adams stands on top with 40 boards this season.
Raven Preston was named to the 2023-24 Preseason All-CAA first team after averaging 12.7 points per game.
Elon and UNCG have competed against two similar opponents this season in Gardner-Webb and North Carolina.
The Phoenix will continue its non-conference schedule with more SoCon action by taking on Furman in Greenville, S.C. on Thursday, Dec. 14.

The overall series between Elon and UNCG is mostly evenly matched. However, the Spartans hold the advantage by one win at 24-23 overall. The Phoenix have claimed the last four meetings, with the most recent coming last season in Elon, N.C., 75-58
