UNCG Women’s Basketball Dominates in Final Non-Conference Contest Versus Livingstone
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team closed out its non-conference schedule in a dominating fashion Thursday night with a 78-32 victory over Livingstone in Fleming Gym.
UNCG continues to remain undefeated at home (9-0) for its best home start since the 2001-02 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A layup from Livingstone’s Samiyah Briggs gave the visiting team the first score of the evening. However, a three-pointer from Isys Grady began a 23-0 run for the Spartans to never allow the Blue Bears to lead again in the contest. Livingstone chipped in two more points in the final minute of the first period. UNCG held a 23-4 lead over the Blue Bears to close out the first quarter.
UNCG continued to dominate by outscoring Livingstone 22-9 in the second quarter. A last second jumper from Nia Howard allowed the Spartans to head into the break on top, 45-13. The Spartans went 7-for-12 in three pointers and recorded 16 points off turnovers in the first half.
The Spartans came out of the locker room continuing to dominate. A three pointer from Jayde Gamble put the Blue & Gold on the board first to start the second half with a 10-2 run. With 50 seconds remaining in the third frame, a layup from Makiah Asidanya allowed UNCG to head into the final quarter with a 60-23 advantage over the Blue Bears.
The fourth quarter was no different than the rest with the Spartans outscoring Livingstone, 18-9. A driving layup from Nina Horvath put the final score at 78-32.
BY THE NUMBERS
Gamble paced the Spartans with 18 points and four steals.
Freshman duo Asidanya and Horvath followed closely for both to earn a new career high of 10 points and two three-pointers.
Kelly Boyle posted a new career high of three rebounds.
Khalis Cain led the way with seven boards.
Howard and Cain led UNCG two blocks each.
UNCG scored 20 second chance points to Livingstone’s four.
The Spartans’ bench produced 41 points to the Blue Bears’ 18.
