High School Basketball Tonight Finals for (1/30/2024) with a split at NWG:NWG girls Winners/Whirlies take boys game(MORE Scores/NG girls now 18-1)

Plenty of Updates on this page
from the Roger Nelson Gymnasium at Northwest Guilford High School:
Northwest Guilford girls 44, Grimsley 29
NWG(14-5)/Grimsley(6-11)
End of First Quarter:NWG 12, Grimsley 4…Halftime:NWG 24, Grimsley 19…End of Third Quarter:NWG 31, Grimsley 27…Final:NWG 44, Grimsley 29
NWG scoring:Maslyn Mosbacher 19 points, Sophia Apple 8, Grace Henline 6, Kameron Snyder 4, Byerly 4, Bel Varadi 3…
Grimsley scoring:Autumn Clark 17 points, Avery Knapp 4, Blount 3, Railyn Lineberry 2, Gardner 2, Britt 1

Total Dominant and just outstanding Defense from the NWG Vikings in the fourth and final quarter of the game…NWG holding the Grimsley girls to just 2 total points in the fourth and final frame…

Maslyn Mosbacher, Bel Varadi and the entire Viking squad were playing lockdown Defense and they did not let Autumn Clark(Grimsley HS) hurt them in the final quarter….NWG was making Grimsley and Clark really work extremely hard for their shots and they were not falling for the Whirlies….Clark has become the go-to girl for the Grimsley Whirlies…

Mosbacher seems to be back at near full strength, and the brace she is wearing on her knee is a large brace, but Maslyn has learned how to play right on through while having to use the brace…Bel Varadi was her usually red-faced self, and that comes from the hard work she Always puts in, when she puts on the Northwest Guilford uniform…

Sophia Apple was finding her shot, and for NWG and Coach Hayley Hackett and assistant coach Gretchen Bennett, it was a total team effort from their Vikings on Tuesday night…

And the thing that still really sticks out, was the defensive effort from NWG in the fourth quarter…Grimsley shots were again not falling, and that was due to the Defesne NWG was playing, and due to fact that NWG was making Grimsley work so hard for their shots, that it was wearing the Whirlies out, and also forcing frustration to set in on the faces of the Whirlies…Big Win that was well-earned, by NWG at the Roger Nelson Gym…

Interview with Maslyn Mosbacher coming here on the site, on Wednesday morning…

Grimsley boys 62, Northwest Guilford 58
Grimsley(14-4)/NWG(7-9(
End of First Quarter:Grimsley 23, NWG 18…Halftime:Grimsley 37, NWG 33…End of Third Quarter:Grimsley 47, NWG 44…Final:Grimsley 62, NWG 58…
Grimsley scoring:Richard Goods 21 points, Keith 20, Faizon Brandon 12, Osman 7, Trent 1…
NWG scoring:Conner Nix 16 points, Caleb Palombo 16 points, Geter 10, Gavin Pearson 7, Jackson Godfrey 6, Austin Jackson 3…

With the Grimsley boys, you have to be careful not to stand around and watch Richard Goods…Goods, as we all know, has the goods, and his game is more than just good…He does so many different important things, that you sit there and wait and see what he is going to do next…Watching the Goods’ game is an experience within itself…

I remember watching him several times when he was playing for the Smith Golden Eagles, and the thing that impressed me the most about Richard back then was his ability for a big man to shoot free throws…Sometimes you just can’t stop him, so you end up fouling him, and then take your chances and see if he will hit the free throws…And back in his day at Smith, he was good 80% of the time at the charity stripe, and as a coach, if you can count on those type of numbers, you want to get your big man to the line as many times as you can…

Goods makes good on his free throws, most of time, and his blocked shots are done with a hammering-like thud sound effect ringing out through the gym…Grimsley has a nice alley-oop dunk play set up between Goods and Osman, and sometimes it might be Goods and Keith…Nine-times-out-of-ten Goods makes good on the dunks…And they usually are real good when they are coming from the left side of the court to Goods going up on the right….In the air left and coming across the goal to the right and then Goods gives it a real Good Flush….

Richard Goods has the talent and he has the size going his way, but at times he looks like he might not be challenged on certain plays and that he might let up, and just let things like the ball roll on through…Good ones like Goods have to be pushed, and they like to be in situations where it is not always easy, but where it is a task that involves a real hard challenge and that makes him work harder and then the Good really will come out in Goods…

Good win by the Whirlies at Northwest on Tuesday night, but to the Vikings credit, they kept this game close throughout….The game really did stay tight…Five-point game at the end of the First Quarter, Four-point game at Halftime, a three-point game at the end of the Third Quarter, then the four-point final to the advantage of the Grimsley Whirlies…

Three-point buckets by Caleb Palombo helped keep NWG in this game, as Palombo registered four made 3’s on the night, to help him tie for NWG Viking scoring honors with Conner Nix…Northwest contiunes to show that they can play with the best teams in the Metro 4-A Conference, and for the most part, this still seems like a young Northwest Guilford team…

You add Jaylen Cross to this mix and you never know what you might be seeing…With Grimsley if you add in Alex Taylor, Jaylon Bumpass, and Zaach Wiggins, to Richard Goods and Faizon Brandon, you might see the Whirlies ready to take on the Charlotte Hornets, and just kidding there, but you know when you go and you know what I mean here, and then you never know these days…But, both Grimsley and Northwest Guilford know what they have to work with, and both are still ready to compete on a nightly basis…

Grimsley with Goods, Brandon, Osman, and Keith and not sure where the kid that was a wide receiver on the football team, not sure where that kid is, but you add him in, and off you go…On your good nights, you can play deep on into the playoffs…The kid I was looking for is Caden Katoe…And there you go…Just saying both Grimsley and NWG can go…

Grimsley as good as Goods on his very Good nights…NWG as good as Palombo, when he is on his Microwave missions…You remember Vinnie Johnson with the Detroit Pistons back in the day, right??? Keep an eye on this Metro 4-A Conference and will see if the guys with the G, the G for Goods and the G for Grimsley, we will see if that G means VICTORY, as we get closer and closer to the end of February and the beginning of the month of March…Time is moving on, and let’s get Moving….

  1. Southern Guilford boys over Northeast Guilford last night, and will have to get you that final score, but that should put SG at (18-1) on the season…. Coach Wil Perry for the SG Boys team reached his 200th win in last nights game vs Northeast…

Girls game, Southern Guilford 43, Northeast Guilford 32

  2. Should AUTUMN Clark not April for Grimsley women’s, sorry didn’t catch that when I caught Railyns 🙂 Thanks for all you do to cover the sports around the area.
