UNCG Men’s Basketball Hits the Road to Contest The Citadel & Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team heads to South Carolina this week to face The Southern Conference (SoCon) foes The Citadel on Wednesday and Wofford on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

UNCG is 17-8 overall this season and 8-4 in SoCon play. The Citadel is 9-16 overall and 1-11 in SoCon play, while Wofford is 14-11 overall and 7-5 in the conference. The Terriers will travel to Macon, Georgia to face Mercer on Wednesday before hosting the Spartans.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

Chattanooga outmatched UNCG on Saturday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum, splitting the regular season series behind an 89-61 win for the Mocs.
Three Spartans tallied double-figures, including Mikeal Brown-Jones who led UNCG with 25 points.
Keyshaun Langley chipped in 12 points, while Donovan Atwell had 11 points.
Brown-Jones tallied a game-high eight rebounds.
Kobe Langley recorded a team-high six assists, while Keyshuan had four assists.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

Currently, the Spartans are ranked nationally in the top 50 in five categories: 6th in three-point percentage (39.5), 16th in three pointers per game (10.0), 42nd in effective field goal percentage (0.546), 43rd in field goal percentage defense (40.9), 47th in three-point attempts per game (25.4)
UNCG is outscoring its opponents 76.7-71.1 and is averaging 6.6 steals per game compared to its foes who are averaging 5.8 per game.
Kobe is nationally ranked 13th in steals (56), 18th in assists (147), 21st in steals per game (2.24), 23rd in assists per game (5.9), 25th in assist/turnover ratio (3.00).
Atwell is nationally ranked 35th in three-point percentage (40.6) and 40th in total three-point field goals made (67).
Brown-Jones is nationally ranked 19th in points per game (20.8), 24th in free throws (126), 30th in free throw attempts (159), 44th in field goal percentage (56.5).
Three Spartans are averaging double figures, including Brown-Jones who is contributing 20.8 points a game, Keyshaun is averaging 14.5 points a game, and Atwell is averaging 10.8 points per game.
Keyshaun earned his second SoCon Player of the Week award (Feb. 5 and Nov. 20), and Brown-Jones earned the honor on November 27 and January 22.
The Spartans were voted to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll and fourth in the Media Poll. They received one first-place vote in the Coaches’ Poll.
Keyshaun and Brown-Jones were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-SoCon team.

The Citadel’s lone SoCon win is against Mercer on January 24, 68-66.
The Citadel and its opponents are both averaging 70.2 points per game.
Four Bulldogs are averaging double figure points per game, including AJ Smith (16.0), Elijah Morgan (14.9), Madison Durr (11.1), and Quentin Millora-Brown (10.4).
The Citadel is nationally ranked eighth and lead the conference in fouls per game (13.7).
Millora-Brown is nationally ranked 22nd in double-doubles (10), 29th in rebounds (227), and 43rd in rebounds per game (9.1).
Morgan is nationally ranked 21st in total three-point field goals made (73), 26th in three-point percentage (41.2), 29th in three pointers per game (2.92), and 49th in three point attempts (177).

RECORD VS. THE BULLDOGS

UNCG holds the series edge, 37-10.
The Spartans have won the last four meetings. They have also won 20 of the last 21 meetings, where the Bulldogs won on January 13, 2022, 74-69. UNCG won the matchup earlier this season, 73-67, in Greensboro.

Corey Tripp (16.3) and Dillon Bailey (11.8) lead the team in points per game.

UNCG won the regular season series last year behind scores of 97-89 and 73-64. The Spartans also won the matchup earlier this season, 82-59 in Greensboro.
