Baseball to Open 2024 Season with Fairfield at Home

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team is set to open up the 2024 season at the UNCG Baseball Stadium in a weekend series against Fairfield beginning on Friday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.

All regular season baseball home games are free admission. Concessions will not be open and outside food is permitted. Concessions will open March 22 during the Mercer series and outside food will not be permitted when concessions open. All weekday home games (not including Friday) will be Bark in the Park games, where spectators can bring their dogs.

UNCG was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Rob Ready was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team.
The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a 25-34 overall record and 9-12 in SoCon play to earn the sixth spot in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll. UNCG concluded the season in the semifinal round of the SoCon Tournament, falling to No. 1 Samford, 9-5.
The Spartans welcome 22 newcomers for the 2024 season; 10 transfers and 12 freshmen.
18 Spartans return from last season for UNCG.
UNCG will begin the season with 11-straight home games by hosting Fairfield, Binghamton and Canisius for three-game series and taking on Wake Forest and Elon for single games.
Jay Miller returns as the leading pitcher for the Spartans after totaling 50 strikeouts last season.
Mitchell Smith stands out as a key hitter for the Spartans swinging .357 at the plate last season.

Fairfield comes to Greensboro for its 2024 season opener with three-straight 30-win seasons and three-consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Regular Season Championships.
The Stags will enter the 2024 season as the preseason favorites in the MAAC. Fairfield became the first program in conference history to win three-straight regular season titles and made an appearance in the MAAC Championship Series.
Fairfield is coming off a 37-win season which featured a program record 35 regular season wins.
Charlie Pagliarini comes in at the forefront of the offense, winning the MAAC Triple Crown with a .399 batting average and a program record 24 home runs and 97 RBI.
The Stags return four starting position players from last year’s squad with two of them being named to the Preseason All-MAAC teams.
At the top for Fairfield is Preseason All-MAAC selection Colin McVeigh, who is coming off a breakout campaign where he posted an 8-1 record with a 3.93 ERA on the mound.

Following this weekend’s series against Fairfield, the Spartans will host No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The game against the Demon Deacons will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
