Women’s Basketball to Conclude Regular Season Road Schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team will conclude its regular season road schedule this week by facing off against ETSU on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. and then Chattanooga on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
The Spartans most recently claimed a dominating 69-49 victory over Mercer on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The win over the Bears was Head Coach Trina Patterson’s 300th career victory.
Jayde Gamble led both teams with 22 points.
Ayanna Khalfani recorded her seventh double-double this season after registering 17 points and 10 boards. Khalfani was only four assists shy of a triple-double after leading the team with six dimes.
Kelly Boyle recorded a career high of two steals.
Jay’lin Hastings followed closely behind Khalfani with 10 rebounds.
Khalfani also led the Spartans with three blocks.
UNCG had 38 points in the paint to Mercer’s 24.
The Spartans had 11 points off of turnovers to the Bears’ eight.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNCG heads to Johnson City, Tenn., with a 17-9 overall record and 6-5 in The Southern Conference (SoCon), standing at third place in the conference.
Khalfani was named the SoCon Player of the Week after her stellar performance this past week. Tuesday’s honor was the graduate student’s first time being named the SoCon Player of the Week. While at San Diego, she earned the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on one occasion.
UNCG is currently ranked in the top-50 nationally in four statistical categories: blocks per game (4.3), field goal percentage defense (37.5), offensive rebounds per game (14.1) and scoring defense (55.8). The Spartans are leading the conference in blocks per game.
Khalis Cain is ranked 19th nationally and leading the SoCon with a 4.0 offensive rebounds per game average.
Gamble is currently 38th nationally with 60 steals this season.
Gamble paces the Spartans with 349 points and has a 13.4 points per game average.
Cain stands out with 204 boards on the 2024 stanza.
Khalfani is leading the team with 95 dimes.
The Spartans are outscoring their opponents 64.1 to 55.8.

SCOUTING THE BUCS
ETSU comes into Thursday’s contest with a 16-9 overall record and 5-5 in conference.
The Bucs are right behind the Spartans at fourth place in the SoCon.
ETSU most recently took a 56-41 loss to Chattanooga in Brooks Gymnasium.
ETSU stands out nationally at 13th with a 55.0 scoring defense. In addition, they are 37th nationally with a 37.1 field goal percentage.
Meghan Downing is third in the conference with a 1.00 blocks per game average.
Nevaeh Brown is fifth in the SoCon with a 42.7 field goal percentage.
Brown paces the Bucs with 344 points and 55 assists on the season.
Breanna Beatty stands out with 128 boards.
ETSU was picked to finish first in the 2023-24 Preseason SoCon Coaches’ Poll with four first-place votes.

SERIES HISTORY VS THE BUCS
The Spartans hold a one-win advantage over the Bucs in the overall series at 22-21. In their previous meeting earlier this season in Fleming Gym, the Spartans claimed a 54-50 win over ETSU.

SCOUTING THE MOCS
Chattanooga paces the SoCon with a 10-0 conference record and are 22-3 overall.
The Spartans and Mocs are the same in that both teams are 11-1 at home.
Chattanooga’s only loss at home this season came against Marshall, 79-74 in a non-conference contest.
The Mocs most recently took down ETSU, 56-41 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Chattanooga stands out nationally, being ranked in the top-50 in six categories: field goal percentage (45.1), free throw percentage (78.3), rebounds per game (53.3), three-point percentage (37.0), three point percentage defense (26.6), and winning percentage (88.0).
Jada Guinn is second in the SoCon with 352 field goal attempts, 50.9 field goal percentage, 179 field goals, 121 free throw attempts, 455 points and an 18.2 points per game average.
Raven Thompson is also second in the conference with an 81.0 free throw percentage and 98 made free throws this season.
The Mocs are outscoring their opponents 64.3 to 53.3.
Chattanooga was tabbed to finish second in the 2023-24 Preseason SoCon Coaches’ Poll, with two votes for first place.

SERIES HISTORY VS THE MOCS
Chattanooga leads in the overall series at 50-13. The Mocs defeated the Spartans in the two team’s previous meeting earlier this season in Greensboro, for UNCG’s only home loss this season.
