Baseball Drops Game One Against Binghamton, 8-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped an 8-5 contest in game one of the series against Binghamton on Friday at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The Spartans got on the board first in the contest with two runs in the second inning. GC Jarman singled through the right side for two RBI, scoring Mitchell Smith and Jake Ogden, giving UNCG the 2-0 lead.

UNCG added to its lead in the third inning after Caleb Cozart hit his fifth home run of the season giving the Spartans the 3-0 lead heading to the fourth inning.

Binghamton earned its first set of runs in the fourth inning, cutting the deficit to one (3-2). The first run came off a triple to right center from Mike Gunning, scoring Evin Sullivan and the second in a single through the right side from Sam Haney, sending Gunning home.

The Bearcats posted three more runs in the fifth inning and then one more in the sixth to take the 6-3 lead over the Spartans.

UNCG cut the deficit back to one in its half of the sixth inning after recording two runs. Jarman singled to left field for one RBI, scoring Jake Ogden. The final run of the day for the Spartans came off a single from Cam Murphy through the right side, sending Aidan Brewer home.

Binghamton added two more runs in the seventh inning for the final runs of the game, giving the Bearcats the 8-5 win over the Spartans.

The Spartans posted seven hits in the game.
Ogden put up one walk for the Spartans.
Starting pitcher, Sam Murchison threw seven strikeouts in his four innings of action.

The Spartans will take on Binghamton for game two on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
