UNCG’s Peissel Named SoCon Pitcher of the Week

Peissel Named SoCon Pitcher of the Week

SoCon Announces Pitcher of the Week Award

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team’s sophomore Julien Peissel has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The Hickory, N.C., native, led the Spartans as the starting pitcher in the teams win over No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday, Feb. 20. In his five innings of action, the right-handed pitcher only gave up two hits, one run and one walk. He earned a total of four strikeouts, seeing 17 batters and throwing for a total of 78 pitches.

“Since my freshman year I have always strived to get this award,” said Peissel. So, to know that I am awarded with SoCon Pitcher of the Week is really cool to finally see happen. After beating Wake Forest, that outing sets the bar for myself to come out and compete like that every time I step on the mound.”

This is the second SoCon weekly recognition for the Spartans this season as Caleb Cozart was tabbed the SoCon Player of the Week in last week’s first round of awards for the 2024 season.

The last time UNCG earned a SoCon Pitcher of the Week award was on May, 19, 2019 when Austin Koehn earned the recognition after earning six strikeouts against Wofford on May, 16, 2019.

The Spartans return to the UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. to host Elon.
