RALEIGH, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dominated in an 18-3 win over No. 13 N.C. State on Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C. at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Tuesday’s win marks the second win over a ranked opponent for UNCG this season. The last time UNCG defeated two ranked opponents in the same season was back in 2021. That was also the last time the Spartans defeated N.C. State coming on Feb. 23, 2021, 16-13 in Raleigh.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG collected the first runs of the game after recording a total of six in the second inning. First, Caleb Cozart ran home to score on a wild pitch (1-0). With Mitchell Smith on second base and Trey Truitt on third, Aidan Brewer stepped up to the batter’s box, sending his fifth home run of the season to left field for three RBI (4-0). The Spartans’ final run of the inning came after GC Jarman singled to center field to bring in Jeremy Wolf (5-0).

UNCG added to its lead in the third inning with three more runs. The first run of the inning came after Cozart sent out his seventh home run of the season, going down the left field line (7-0). The Spartans scored again after Brewer doubled to left center, sending Trey across home plate (8-0). UNCG added its final run of the inning after Zachary Walsh singled to left center, sending Brewer home (9-0).

The Wolfpack were able to cut the deficit to six, getting on the board for the first time with their only three runs of the game in the fifth inning (9-3).

The Spartans added a total of nine more runs in the ninth inning. A single to center field from Trey allowed Jake Ogden to run home (10-3). UNCG tallied another run after Cozart scored on a wild pitch (11-3). NC State walked in the next two runs as the Spartans had the bases loaded (13-3). The Spartans added another run after Jacob Dilley scored from GC Jarman reaching first base on a fielder’s choice (14-3). With the bases still loaded and two outs, Cozart hit his eighth home run of the season, a grand slam to left center giving UNCG an 18-3 advantage.
