UNCG Baseball Falls in Final Game of Series to ETSU, 4-3
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped the final game of its series against ETSU, 4-3 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams stayed scoreless through the first five innings thanks to stellar pitching from Jay Miller and Michael Harpster, both notching three strikeouts apiece.
ETSU tallied the first set of runs of the day thanks to a home run for two RBI (2-0).
The Spartans responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Aidan Brewer doubled to left center, scoring Jeremy Wolf to cut the deficit to one (2-1).
The Bucs captured two more runs in the eighth inning to take the 4-1 lead over the Spartans. Luke Holland made it a two-run game in the bottom half of the eighth inning with his third homer of the season and second of the series going to left field (4-2).
Brandon Hudson kept the Bucs from doing any more damage in the ninth inning with one strikeout. UNCG stayed alive in the ninth inning after Caleb Cozart singled through the right side, scoring Jake Ogden (4-3). However, ETSU was able to hold on to the lead for the 4-3 win.
NOTES:
Ogden and Cozart led the Spartans with two hits apiece.
Cozart led the team at first base with 11 putouts.
Miller paced the Spartans on the bump with five strikeouts.
The Spartans recorded eight hits to the Bucs’ seven.
UNCG had zero errors, while ETSU had one.
