UNCG Softball to Face In-Town Rival NC A&T
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will take a break from Southern Conference (SoCon) play, to travel across town to face North Carolina A&T for a mid-week battle.
The Spartans and Lady Aggies are set to face off on Wednesday, April 3 at 3 p.m. at Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
The Spartans are currently 22-14 overall, while the Lady Aggies are 8-22 overall.

RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
Maxwell is pacing the Spartans with a .431 batting average, 35 RBI, and 12 home runs.
Grace Loftin is second on the team with 25 RBI, while Shipley is second with a .368 batting average.
Maxwell is pacing the SoCon in batting average, runs scored, hits, triples, at bats, and assists.
Maxwell is ranked nationally in the top 10 in three categories: third in total bases (109), fifth in hits (53), and seventh in triples (5).
Jessie Shipley is 23rd in the nation with 12 doubles.
The Spartans are in the top 50 nationally in three categories: ninth in home runs per game (1.56), 10th in walks (142), 22nd in slugging percentage (0.512), and 33rd in double plays per game (0.44).
Salem Ward is pacing the Spartans’ pitching staff with 48 strikeouts in 52.1 innings of work.
Rhyann Jones is second on the team with 42 strikeouts in 74.1 innings.
Maddie Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 26), while Anna White was named SoCon Player of the Week (Feb. 26).
On March 11, Brooklynn Maxwell was named SoCon Player of the Week and Salem Ward was tabbed SoCon Pitcher of the Week.
Maxwell was also named SoCon Player of the Month for all competition during the month of February.
UNCG was chosen to finish first in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Spartans received four first-place votes.
Senior Brooklynn Maxwell, redshirt-junior Maddie Spell, and junior Jorde Chartrand were named to the SoCon Preseason first team.
Junior Grace Loftin and sophomore Rhyann Jones were named to the SoCon Preseason second team.
UNCG won its sixth-straight SoCon Regular Season title in 2023.
The Spartans won their third SoCon Tournament Championship in route to the program’s seventh NCAA Tournament bid.
This was their third ticket to the NCAA Tournament in six years.
Maycin Brown and Blayke Batten return for their fifth year in the Blue & Gold.
UNCG added five freshmen and one transfer to the 2024 roster.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG is coming off a SoCon series sweep against Furman at home. This is the Spartans’ second conference sweep of the season.
UNCG won the games with scores of 5-3, 5-3 (8 inn.), and 6-1.
In the extra-inning battle, freshman Samantha Beck homered to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth and Meredith Harwood walked the game off with a two-run home run.
In the 6-1 victory, freshman Betsy Eatmon hit two home runs.
RUNDOWN ON THE LADY AGGIES
The Lady Aggies finished the 2023 season 17-34 overall and 10-14 in the CAA.
NC A&T was voted to finish ninth in the 2024 CAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Megan Ellis and Alyxx Estrada were selected to the 2024 CAA Preseason Watch List.
The Lady Aggies recently went 2-1 in a series against Hampton University in Greensboro this past weekend.
Estrada is leading the team with a .321 batting average, 24 runs scored, five doubles, and 25 hits.
She has successfully stolen 12 of 13 bases this season and has a .409 on-base percentage.
Brenay Howard is pacing the team with 18 RBI, while Joey Barkhimer and Jamari Moss have 14 and 15 RBI, respectively.
Sharla Kirkpatrick has tossed a team-best 72.0 innings this season, striking out 30 batters.
The Lady Aggies are nationally ranked in the top 50 in two categories, including 42nd in stolen bases per game (1.67) and 47th in total stolen bases (50).

The Spartans return to SoCon action this weekend as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face conference foe Samford. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 with a start time of 2:00 p.m. EST and then conclude the series on Sunday, April 7 with a single game at 2:00 p.m. EST.
