UNCG Baseball Falls to No. 21 Wake Forest, 9-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell in a 9-2 contest at No. 21 Wake Forest Tuesday night at the David F. Couch Ballpark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wake Forest got on the board first with a couple of two-run homers in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead over the Spartans.

The Demon Deacons added two more runs in the fourth inning for the 6-0 advantage. Wake Forest posted its fifth homer of the day in the sixth inning for two RBI (8-0).

The Spartans tallied their first set of runs in the eighth inning. First, Mitchell Smith doubled to center field, scoring Jake Ogden (8-1). Later on, Luke Holland singled to left field to bring Trey Truitt across home plate (8-2).

Wake Forest tacked on another run in the bottom half of the eighth inning for the 9-2 lead.

Cole Roland closed it out on the mound for the Demon Deacons to walk away with the 9-2 victory.

NOTES:
Grant Aycock and Hunter Shuey led the Spartans on the mound with two strikeouts apiece.
Smith paced the squad on the field with 11 total putouts.
Smith led the team with two hits and one double.
Smith and Holland led the way with one RBI apiece.
As a team, the Spartans collected four walks and three HBP’s.
