UNCG Softball Hosts Cross-Town Rival NC A&T for Midweek Contest

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team prepares for a midweek test against North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans are currently 23-17 overall and 6-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon), while the Aggies are 8-26 overall and 2-13 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).

The Spartans bested the Aggies 4-1 in a previous meeting this season on April 3 at the Aggie Softball Complex. In 55 all-time meetings, UNCG owns a 53-2 record over NC A&T.

The Spartans also own a 23-game winning streak over the Aggies, which dates back to April 16, 2009, when the Aggies bested the Spartans 3-2 at NC A&T.

Brooklynn Maxwell is pacing the Spartans with a .409 batting average, 35 RBI, and 12 home runs.
Grace Loftin is second on the team with 27 RBI and 11 homers, while Tori Dalehite is second with a .353 batting average.
Maxwell is pacing the SoCon with a .409 batting average, 39 runs scored, 56 hits, five triples, 137 at bats, and 110 assists.
Maxwell is ranked nationally in the top 10 in three categories: fifth in total bases (113), eighth in triples (5), and 10th in hits (56).
Jessie Shipley is 35th in the nation with 12 doubles.
The Spartans are in the top 50 nationally in four categories: 12th in home runs per game (1.45), 13th in walks (154), 30th in double plays per game (0.45), and 37th in slugging percentage (0.490).
Salem Ward is pacing the Spartans’ pitching staff with 53 strikeouts in 65.0 innings of work.
Rhyann Jones is second on the team with 44 strikeouts in 80.2 innings.
Maddie Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 26), while Anna White was named SoCon Player of the Week (Feb. 26).
On March 11, Brooklynn Maxwell was named SoCon Player of the Week and Salem Ward was tabbed SoCon Pitcher of the Week.
Maxwell was also named SoCon Player of the Month for all competition during the month of February and March.

UNCG is coming off an 0-3 weekend, falling to SoCon foe Samford in Birmingham, Alabama.
Maycin Brown led the Spartans swinging 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a .400 batting average and slugging percentage.
Kiley McQuillan hit a two-run double in game one against the Bulldogs.

UNCG has faced NC A&T one time prior this season, where it bested the Aggies 4-1 at the Aggie Softball Complex.
After the Spartans scored first in the top of the fourth, the Aggies answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth. UNCG ran away with it in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs with a solo home run from Shipley and a two-run shot from Loftin on the way to an eventual 4-1 win.
Ward picked up the win for the Spartans after pitching seven innings with only one earned run allowed and two hits while striking out five along the way.

The Lady Aggies finished the 2023 season 17-34 overall and 10-14 in the CAA.
NC A&T was voted to finish ninth in the 2024 CAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Megan Ellis and Alyxx Estrada were selected to the 2024 CAA Preseason Watch List.
Estrada is pacing the Aggies with a .303 batting average and has two home runs and 18 RBI.
Brenay Howard is also leading the team with 18 RBI and is second on the team with a .298 batting average.
Sharla Kirkpatrick has thrown in 73.0 innings with a team-best 30 strikeouts.
NC A&T ranks 59th nationally in stolen bases per game (1.47) and owns a total of 50 stolen bases this season in 34 games played.

The Spartans continue a six-game home stand with a three-game series against SoCon foe Chattanooga this weekend. UNCG and the Mocs will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 starting at 1:00 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium. The first 100 fans will receive a FREE UNCG softball championship t-shirt!
