UNCG Baseball Set for Triad Contest at Elon
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will stay in the Triad for a non-conference contest at Elon on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. in Elon, N.C., at Latham Park.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG most recently went 2-1 in a Southern Conference (SoCon) series at Western Carolina this past weekend.
The Spartans claimed the wins on Friday, 15-11, and Saturday, 7-6, but fell in the series finale on Sunday, 7-6, in 10 innings.
After winning Friday and Saturday’s games, the Spartans secured their sixth series win of the season.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNCG comes into Tuesday’s contest with a 19-15 overall record and is 7-5 in conference play.
As a team the Spartans are ranked in the top-20 nationally over three categories: sacrifice bunts (29), stolen bases (76) and stolen bases per game (2.24).
Caleb Cozart is currently ranked 11th nationally with 15 homers and is 13th with a 0.45 home runs per game average. In addition, Cozart is 11th in the country with 50 RBI this season and eighth with a 1.52 RBI per game average.
Jeremy Wolf stands out nationally at 10th with eight sacrifice bunts and ninth with a 0.27 sacrifice bunts per game average. Wolf is also ranked 24th in the country with a 0.60 average in stolen bases, he remains perfect at doing so this season at 18-for-18.
Jake Ogden is pacing the Spartans with 41 hits.
Mitchell Smith leads the squad with 12 doubles on the season.
Rob Ready was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week after the team’s SoCon opening series win against Mercer when he threw for a complete game with a career high nine strikeouts in game two against the Bears. Ready is one of six players in the SoCon to have pitched a complete game.
Caleb Cozart was named the SoCon Player of the Week and the Perfect Game Player of the Week after hitting four home runs in the season opening series against Fairfield.
Julien Peissel was selected as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week after starting off on the mound in UNCG’s win over No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Peissel is leading the team on the mound with 35 strikeouts.
UNCG was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Ready was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team.
The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a 25-34 overall record and 9-12 in SoCon play to earn the sixth spot in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll. UNCG concluded the season in the semifinal round of the SoCon Tournament, falling to No. 1 Samford, 9-5.
The Spartans welcome 22 newcomers for the 2024 season: 10 transfers and 12 freshmen.
Eighteen Spartans return from last season for UNCG.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
Elon will host UNCG, currently standing at 14-21 overall and 4-8 in the CAA.
In their last time out, the Phoenix claimed a series sweep over Hofstra this past weekend with scores of 16-7, 2-1, and 11-6 at Latham Park.
Charlie Granatell is currently ranked 14th nationally with 15 doubles this season.
Kenny Mallory Jr. is leading the Phoenix with 28 runs on the season.
Mallory and Charlie Granatell stand out with 48 hits apiece.
Vince Fattore and Connor Offshack are pacing the team with five homers.
Justin Mitrovich is leading the team on the bump with 66 strikeouts this season.
The Spartans and Phoenix have competed against two similar opponents this season in Wake Forest and High Point.
Elon was picked to finish fifth in the CAA Preseason Poll, while Mitrovich was selected to the 2024 Preseason All-CAA team.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE PHOENIX
Elon holds the advantage in the overall series against UNCG at 40-26. The two teams met earlier this season at the UNCG Baseball Stadium with the Phoenix claiming the 6-3 win.
