Charlotte Takes 10-6 Win Over UNCG Softball

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell in a mid-week battle to in-state foe Charlotte, 10-6, at the UNCG Softball Stadium, in the Spartans’ final non-conference regular season game of the season.

Charlotte made a statement at the plate in the first inning, scoring seven runs on five hits and one error.

The 49ers stranded one on in the top of the second and in the bottom of the frame, Betsy Eatmon tallied UNCG’s first hit of the game. The Spartans retired three-straight as Charlotte held on for the 7-0 advantage.

After a scoreless third inning for both teams, UNCG added a run in the bottom of the fourth on Blayke Batten’s double to center field that scored Jorde Chartrand, 7-1.

The 49ers extended their lead to nine, 10-1, after putting up three runs on two hits in the top of the fifth.

The Spartans responded with five runs on one hit in the bottom of the fifth cutting the deficit to four, 10-6. On Eatmon’s ground out, Tori Dalehite scored from third for the first run of the frame. After Brooklynn Maxwell scored on a passed ball, Chartrand crushed a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall for a three-run blast. This was her fifth homer of the season.

Both teams stayed scoreless in the sixth and seventh, as Charlotte held on for the win.

The Spartans will conclude their regular season home slate this weekend, hosting SoCon foe Mercer for a three-game series on Saturday, April 27 with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 28 with the single game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. This weekend will be senior recognition weekend as well as Alumni Weekend for softball.

Prior to Saturday’s doubleheader, the Spartans’ seniors will catch a first pitch from their dads. Senior alumni will also get recognized in between games. The first 100 fans will receive a FREE hat!

On Sunday before the game, UNCG will recognize its seven seniors.
