Tortorella Deals, Cozart Sets Single-Season HR Record as Baseball Thumps High Point

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team cruised to a 13-0 victory in seven innings over the High Point Panthers on Wednesday evening at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The game also marked UNCG’s 13th game posting 10 or more runs this season. The Spartans are undefeated when accomplishing the feat this year.

It also marks the Spartans’ first time shutting out an opponent since April 16, 2023, against The Citadel on the way to a 3-0 victory at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Aidan Brewer opened the scoring for the Spartans in the bottom of the second inning when he launched his third grand slam against the Panthers and of the season out to left to make it 4-0.

UNCG added three more runs in the third thanks to Zachary Walsh singling to left-center to score a pair before GC Jarman doubled off the wall in right to make it 7-0.

The Spartans piled on three more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 10-0. It started with Caleb Cozart breaking UNCG’s single-season record for home runs when he launched a two-run no-doubt blast off the scoreboard in right for his 18th home run of the season. The three-run inning concluded with Mitchell Smith scoring on an error by HPU’s third baseman.

The fifth frame saw another three runs cross the plate for UNCG. Walsh doubled to left-center to kick it off, scoring Jarman and Cozart. Dilley then singled up the middle to bring Smith around to cap the scoring at 13-0.
