Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday Night Baseball Report
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

Final from Saturday night at First National Bank Field:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 5, Winston-Salem Dash 4
WP:Jack Carey(2-0)
LP:Jose Ramirez(2-1)
Hold:Cy Nielson(1)
SV:Brandon Bidois(2)

Hoppers' Line-5-6-0
Dash' Line- 4-9-6

Greensboro Grasshopper(15-10)
Winston-Salem Dash(11-15)

Greensboro Grasshoppers got down early in this one, falling behind 2-0 in the Top of the First Inning, as the WS Dash got a two-run Home Run to left field from Shawn Goosenberg, and the Dash picked up those two runs on two hits…The Dash continued to mash and smash, getting a single from Jacob Gonzalez, and then a Double from Goosenberg and those two WS Dash runners both scored, on a two-run single from Bryce Willits…So the WS Dash took what appeared to be a commanding 4-0 lead to the bottom of the fourth inning, but at that point, that is where the Greensboro Grasshoppers said, “Enough is Enough”….

In that fourth inning recovery, the Hoppers got base hit singles from Charles McAdoo and Mitch Jebb…Both McAdoo and Jebb ended up scoring on two separate Wild Pitches by the Dash reliever, Jose Ramirez, and the score was WS Dash 4, Greensboro Grasshoppers 2..

Now with a new ballgame brewing, the Greensboro Grasshoppers began showing signs of being a team that was on their way back up, and in the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Hoppers’ SS Jack Brannigan came up to the plate for the third time in the contest, Brannigan smoked Jose Ramirez’ fast ball out of the ballpark, on a drive to deep center field…The Hoppers were within one run of the Dash now, trailing just 4-3…

Number two batter in the Hoppers order, Termarr Johnson, drew a walk there in the fifth inning, and later came home to score on a real nice sacrifice fly ball off the bat of Charles McAdoo to center…For McAdoo it was his 15th RBI of the season, and more importantly for the Grasshoppers, McAdoo’s SAC Fly scored Termarr Johnson, making what was a 4-0 ballgame, now a 4-4 contest…

The Hoppers are back in it to win it…And the home team took the lead for the first time in this game, there in the sixth inning when Mitch Jebb scored his second run of the game, and this time, Jebb made the score Greensboro Grasshoppers 5, Winston-Salem Dash 4…The score hit that mark, and it never changed, as the Grashoppers Win Again…Jebb scored on a double-play ground ball struck by catcher Geovanny Planchart…Hoppers up now 5-4 headed to the sixth inning, and all the Hoppers had to do here was hang on, and they will have a great chance to win this game….
(The Hoppers did hang on and win this contest, and soon the Hoppers and others will be busy getting ready for warmer weather, and like we noticed on Saturday night, it should be coming soon)….

We gave the Player of the Game award to the Greensboro Grasshoppers bullpen, and that pen had a lot to do with the Hoppers win on Saturday night, at First National Bank Field…That pen comprised of WP Jack Carey, Cy Nielson, and Brandon Bidois gave up 0 Runs on 3 hits, with 0 BBs, and 7 Ks…Take it from me, that three was doing their job at FNB, on Saturday night…Again Carey got the win, but you got to hand it to Nielson too, as he got the hold, and Brandon Bidois added the save….

For a team that was down 4-0 at one stage in this game, that bullpen sure showed what they can do, as the Hoppers fought back to pick up that “W” on Saturday night…

Key Hopper hitters from the Saturday night Victory:
Mitch Jebb 2-4/2 Runs/SB…Charles McAdoo 2-2/BB/Run/SAC Fly RBI….Jack Brannigan 1-5/HR…Nick Cimillo 1-3/BB…Termarr Johnson 0-2/2 BBs/Run…Rodolfo Nolasco 0-3/BB…Sammy Siani 0-4/BB…Geovanny Planchart 0-3/BB

Top Dash hitters:Shawn Goosenberg 2-4/HR/Double/2 Runs/2 RBI…Bryce Willits 1-3/BB/2 RBI…Jacob Gonzalez 2-4/Double/Run…Samuel Zavala 1-5/Run..DJ Gladney 1-4…Wes Kath 1-4/Double…Weston Eberly 1-4…

The Greensboro Grasshoppers were really able to get to the Dash’ losing pitcher reliever Jose Ramirez, as he allowed 3 runs, on 2 hits, and he gave up 3 BBs, he 1 K, plus he served up Jack Brannigan’s home run….

Among Jose Ramirez three Wild Pitches, two of the WP allowed two Hopper runs to score, plus the Dash committed 6 Errors in the ballgame, and that kicked them hard in the backside…No errors on the Greensboro defense, but Winston-Salem with 6 to account for, and two of those Dash errors were on their catcher, Weston Eberly…

With the comeback win, the Greensboro Grasshoppers lead the Six-Game Weekly Series, Three-Games-to Two, with Game Six set for Sunday afternoon…For the season, the Hoppers are up 7-4 over the Dash…
