Greensboro Grasshoppers Sunday Afternoon Baseball Report…
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..
The Greensboro Grasshoppers went up 4-0 early on the WS Dash, then Greensboro fell behind 5-4, just before Hudson Head’s two-run HR to right field put the home back in front 6-5, in what turned out to be a four-run sixth innning for the Grasshoppers and by the time the defense went back out for the seventh, the Greensboro Grasshoppers led the Winston-Salem Dash, 8-5…Then after a seven-run eighth inning, the Hoppers has their 15-5 victory…
Hoppers one run in the second, three runs in the third, four runs in the sixth, and then that heavy-hitting seven-run eighth inning…Hoppers take the Six-Game homestand from the WS Dash, 4-2, and now the Grasshoppers led the season-series, 8-4/Eight-games-to-Four….
Hopper wins in the homestand go, 9-2, 14-4, 5-4, and on Sunday you had that 15-5 pasting at First National Bank Field…Hoppers are getting hot, and the weather gets warmer, and the team now sits at (16-10) for 2024…Winston-Salem falls to (11-16) after to falling to the Hoppers again on Sunday…
Starting Pitcher Hunter Barco went 3 Innings, with 0 Runs, on 2 hits, with 0 BBs, and 4 Ks…Barco was once again on a tight pitch count after his Tommy John’s surgery from a couple of seasons back…
Derek Diamond came on in relief to get the win for Greensboro, and Diamond was not quite as sharp as Neil on Sunday, as Derek allowed five runs, on seven hits, with 0 BBs, and he gave up two home runs, which were a two-run HR by Colby Smelley, and a solo shot/home run from the Dash’ Loidel Chapelli…
Both of the Dash homers came in the Dash’ five-run sixth inning…Five runs and the Dash were done with their scoring on Sunday afternoon…At one stage of the sixth inning, Diamond was set to be the losing pitcher, but then when the Hoppers came back with four runs in the bottom of that sixth frame, Diamond is your diamond-leader and dish cleaner, and he goes on to get the “W”….
The Greensboro Grasshoppers back end of their bullpen was like glue on Sunday…Darvin Garcia, Emmanuel Chapman, and Luis Peralta worked one inning each, and they gave up 0 runs, on one hit, with 0 BBs and 4 Ks…I would say that Gracia, Champman, and Peralta were ready for the challenge on Sunday…The Hoppers pitching staff a whole unit, struck out 10 Dash batters, and only walked one Winston-Salem Dash player…
It was beautiful day at the ballpark, and that final score, 15-5 Hoppers, made everything even sweeter…
