Greensboro Grasshoppers Wednesday Night Baseball Report brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner: Hoppers battle BlueClaws take 6-5 victory with Solo HR for White Jr., 2 Runs for Johnson, 2 RBI for Head, but Shawn Ross pickoff play, might have been the best

Greensboro Grasshoppers Wednesday Night Baseball Report…
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

We had a go-ahead key Solo HR from Lonnie White Jr., there were 2 Runs scored by Termarr Johnson, the Hoppers had 2 RBI from Hudson Head, but the head-turning play of the night came from Shawn Ross on a pickoff play, that might have been the best we have seen this season…
Top of the Ninth Inning and:
Catcher Shawn Ross picks off William Bergolla on a throw to first baseman Josiah Sightler. 2 outs…There was just one out, and the next batter ended up drawing a Walk, so you have to see, in a one-run game, that Pickoff Play by catcher Shawn Ross, was HUGE…

Ross was 0-3, with a Walk while at the plate, but his play defensively from behind the plate, was something that took the wind out of the Blue Claws’ sails and gave the Greensboro Grasshoppers the boost they needed to get them over the hump, and take a Two Games-to-None lead over Jersey Shore, in this week’s Best-of-Six Games series…

Hoppers got behind early, getting down 1-0 after one inning, and then seeing the Claws go up 4-0, at the end of the Top of the Second frame…The Grasshoppers did not lay down, they got jumping, and Greensboro tied this game up at 4-4, in the fifth inning…

Then the Hoppers got that solo home run to left field by Lonnie White Jr., in the sixth, plus Charles McAdoo got hit on the right side of the infield in 7th inning, and that let Termarr Johnson head home and he scored, and that gave the Hoppers a 6-4 advantage, and that two-run cushion carried them well, with Greensboro surviving Otto Kemp’s second home run of the contest, and it was another solo HR off of the bat of Kemp, so it put a dent in what the Hoppers were trying to do, but the Grasshoppers got that great defensive play in the ninth inning from Shawn Ross, and Hoppers ‘closer of the night’, Ryan Harbin, struck out the last batter in that ninth inning(Erick Brito), to close out the game….

Another extra large Greensboro Grasshoppers victory on Wednesday night, over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws…Hoppers(31-21) up two games this week, and now up 3 1/2 games over both Jersey Shore(28-25) and Brooklyn(28-25), in the South Atlantic Leagues Northern Division first half standings….Hoppers sitting on that top spot, in the SALLY North…

Lonnie White Jr., Termarr Johnson, Hudson Head and others at the plate producing for the Wednesday Win, and let’s highlight a few of the things those three did before we look at the Hoppers Hitters for the night…

In the sixth inning it was Lonnie White Jr.’s turn to turn it on and he turned on a Jordy Martinez pitch, and sent out of the park, to left field….

A little earlier in the game, Hudson Head was getting it done….

In the fifth inning, Hudson Head again makes things happen, and he sends Termarr Johnson home, and with the Johnson run, the game is now tied up at 4-4…

Solid offensive action right there, but I still say one of the key plays of the game, is one that will not show up in the box score…That pickoff play from Shawn Ross in the the Top of the Ninth Inning, made sure the Greensboro Grasshoppers were Winning, on Wednesday night…

Now how ’bout those Hopper Hitters…
Jack Brannigan 0-3/HBP/Run…Termarr Johnson 1-3/Double/BB/2 Runs…Hudson Head 2-3/2 RBI…Charles McAdoo 2-3/BB/Run(Charles McAdoo now batting .335 on the 2024 season)…Mitch Jebb 1-3/Double/RBI…Lonnie White Jr. 1-4/HR…Josiah Sightler 1-4/RBI…Shawn Ross 0-3/BB…Luke Brown 1-4/BB…

Hoppers’ winning pitcher Alessandro Ercolani worked 3 innings, and was very efficient, allowing 0 Runs, on 0 Hits, with 1 BB/5 Ks…Jaden Woods was credited with the Hold, and Woods’ Wednesday goes 1 inning, giving up 1 run, on 1 hit, with 0 BB/O Ks, and the hit off of Woods was HR #4 of the year for the BlueClaws’ Otto Kemp…Ryan Harbin came on got the Save, closing out the exciting ninth inning, with 0 Runs/0 Hits/1 BB/2 Ks…

Jersey Shore losing pitcher Jordy Martinez was on Rehab assignment, he went just 1/3 of an inning, and he alllowed the Solo HR to left field from the Hoppers Lonnie White Jr….The top BlueClaw hitter on the evening was by far and away, Otto Kemp, who was 3-4, with two solo homers and 3 RBI…Jersey Shore also got a solo Home Run from Ryan Leitch in the second inning..
