Greensboro Grasshoppers Thursday Night Baseball Report brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner: Hoppers play well, but Jersey Shore plays better after Weather Delay, and in the 7th Inning, Claws grab the lead and won’t give it back

Greensboro Grasshoppers Thursday Night Baseball Report…
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

Final Score from Thursday night, at First National Bank Field:
Jersey Shore BlueClaws 5, Greensboro Grasshoppers 1
WP:Charles King(2-0)
LP:Yoldin De La Paz(0-1)

BlueClaws' Line-5-13-0
Hoppers' Line- 1- 5-0

Greensboro Grasshoppers(31-22)
Jersey Shore(29-25)

Greensboro Grasshoppers(31-22) still with a 2 1/2 game lead over both the Jersey Shore BlueClaws(29-25) and the Brooklyn Cyclones(29-25) going into Friday’s/Today’s games…These three battling for that First Half crown in the South Atlantic League’s Northern Division…

On Thursday night, it was a 1-1 game just before the weather delay hit, and at that point, the Hoppers’ righty Patrick Reilly was ready and he was going strong on the hill…Reilly had worked his full five innings, and he had given up 1 Run, on 5 hits, with 0 BB/4 Ks…When the weather shut Reilly down, he had thrown 72 pitchers, with 48 of them going for strikes…

With Reilly not a thought or consideration to come back and pitch again after the 49 minute weather delay, the Hoppers turned to Yoldin De La Paz and De La Paz maybe could have benfitted from the use of the pause button in the Top of the Seventh Inning, because that’s when the BlueClaws won the game at the plate…

Here is how Jersey Shored shored up the victory and made sure that they became the winners on Thursday night…
Top 7th
Justin Crawford hits a ground-rule double on a fly ball down the left-field line. Zach Arnold scores. Erick Brito to 3rd.
JS 2,GBO 1

Leandro Pineda singles on a ground ball to right fielder P. J. Hilson. Erick Brito scores. Justin Crawford scores. Otto Kemp out at 3rd on the throw, right fielder P. J. Hilson to third baseman Charles McAdoo. Leandro Pineda to 2nd. 2 outs
JS 4,GBO 1

Hendry Mendez singles on a ground ball to second baseman Mitch Jebb. Leandro Pineda scores.
JS 5,GBO 1

The ground-rule Double to left field was the killer, and it left Jersey Shore wanting MORE…Their skipper Greg Brodzinski felt like the hit by Crawford was nearly gone, and it was in home run range/territory…Brodzinski argued with home plate umpire Dylan Hulsey, and Brodzinski got his monies worth during the arguement, and eventually Hulsey tossed Brodzinski out of the game…Ejection:BlueClaws manager Greg Brodzinski ejected by HP umpire Dylan Hulsey (7th)……

But it was almost like a case of Killer Karma, as Leandro Pineda came up with a two-run single just after Greg “The Bull” Brodzinski got tossed, scoring Justin Crawford and Erick Brito for the Claws, and De La Paz gave the Claws a pause for the cause, so to speak…Either way, the Claws got two runs they were looking for, and Jersey Shore never looked back after that…No blues being sung by the BlueClaws, they were on their way to the win…

That is pretty much the story, with smooth sailing for the Hoppers until that Weather Delay kicked in, and then the moral of the story was, “It is tough to keep an armed BlueClaw at bay”….De La Paz gave up 4 runs, on 7 hits, with 1 BB/1 K…

Seventh Inning Sayonara for the Greensboro Grasshoppers on this night, and the Hoppers got hit with the fact that they could only come up with 5 hits on the night vs. Jersey Shore…BlueClaws out-hit the Hoppers 13-5, and for the Hoppers to hold JS to just five runs on their 13 hits, not too bad there…

The big hit of the night for the Greensboro Grasshoppers was the Charles McAdoo solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning…
Bottom 4th
Charles McAdoo homers on a line drive to right center field.
JS 1,GBO 1

Hoppers hitters:Jack 0-0/BB…Termarr Johnson 0-1/2 BBs…Nick Cimillo 1-4…Charles McAdoo 1-3/HR/BB/RBI…McAdoo now batting .335 for the season with 7 HRs and 38 RBI…Mitch Jebb 1-4…Maikol Escotto 2-4…

BlueClaws’ batters with several having two hits each…Justin Crawford 2-5/Double/Run/RBI…Otto Kemp 2-4/Double…Leandro Pineda 2-5/Run/2 RBI…Andrick Nava 2-4…

Just being at the right place at the right time, and Charles King becomes the Winning Pitcher for the BlueClaws on Thursday night…King went one inning, allowing 0 Runs, on 1 hits, with 1 BB/0 K….

That seventh inning was when the BlueClaws came home to roost, and they end up doing it, to the tune of 5-1 victory…
