Jake Bloss gets the Big League Call
from HiToms Baseball with Carter Dewees, and from GreensboroSports.com:
High Point-Thomasville – Jake Bloss(Grimsley High School) will become the newest HiTom alum to become a Major Leaguer TONIGHT at Minute Maid Park, as he will take the mound for the Houston Astros who will face off against the Baltimore Orioles. Bloss, a 2023 third-rounder from Georgetown after getting his undergrad at Lafayette pitched for the HiToms in 2020, 2021, and 2022 summers.
Across 62 innings in 2024 in High-A Asheville and most recently Double-A Corpus Christi, the 22-year-old righty has posted a 1.74 ERA and has only given up two earned runs through his last four starts, with a mere .207 opponent slugging percentage.
Bloss, a Greensboro, North Carolina native, played for the Thomasville team for three summers. He is the second 2020 HiTom to join an MLB club, joining Zack Gelof, and 24th all-time former HiTom to wear a big league uniform.
This will be a new face and fresh arm for the Astros, a squad that has dealt with a pitching injury bug all season and Bloss looks to be a boost to the starting rotation as well, with a chance to make a statement in his rookie debut TONIGHT.
