Carolina placed the franchise tag on Burns on March 5 but eventually sent him and the San Francisco 49ers’ 2024 fifth-round pick to Big Blue on March 13 for a second and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Afterward, New York signed the 26-year-old to a five-year, $141M contract (including $87.5M guaranteed).

Burns had career highs in sacks (12.5), quarterback hits (22) and tackles for loss (17) in 2022 before his numbers dipped slightly in 2023. He finished last season with 18 quarterback hits, 16 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks across 16 games.
