Friday Football Finish with Northern Guilford over Northwest Guilford 17-10 and Page slips past Western Guilford 28-27 on GreensboroSports Radio

Two of those mammoth Metro 4-A Conference games in our area tonight, and GreensboroSports Radio hit them both, and they were both MONEY…(6-0) Northern Guilford at Northwest Guilford(5-1)…NG fighting for first place in the Metro, and NWG trying to hang near the top of the conference…Very tight game in the first stanza, and it was so close we hit the half tied at 7-7…

Northern Guilford took the opening kickoff, and the Nighthawks moved the ball down the field 80 yards on their opening drive of the game, and the ‘Hawks came away with the early 7-0 lead…After beginning on their own 20-yard line, NG saw their top back of the game, Dwight Hall, take the ball in from 3 yards out, for the touchdown, and then Kobe Guardado added the extra point that gave Northern the edge in the first quarter of this contest…
5:59 First Quarter Northern Guilford with the 3-yard TD run from Hall, plus the Hawks added the Guardado PAT kick, and the score was Northern Guilford 7, Northwest Guilford 0
So at the end of the First Q, our score was NG 7, NWG 0

With 1:53 to go in the second quarter, Northwest Guilford gets on the board with their RB Nathan Cox hauling the ball in on a 2-yard TD run, then the Nolan Hagemann PAT kick was true, and we have a whole new ball game, Northwest Guilford ties Northern Guilford at 7-7…
We would hit the halftime break with our score sitting dead even at, Northwest Guilford 7, Northern Guilford 7

The kickers for both teams were matching each other with NG’s Guardado and Anderson Meyer going toe-to-toe, with NWG’s Nolan Hagemann and Caleb Trogdon…Guardado with a PAT kick, and Hagemann with his PAT kick…Meyer with a kickoff into the end zone, and Trogdon with his kick going for a Touchback(TB Trogdon)…

Herb McNeal with pick for Northwest Guilford on defense, and Kevin Willoughby getting his first pick of the game in the first half for Northern Guilford…Later on Willoughby would another interception, while NG’s Chance Crews would grab one too…Crews was a tackling machine the entire game for Northern Guilford, and Austin Jackson was stuffing the tackling side of the Stat Sheet for the NWG Vikings…

Now back to the game and as we hit the second half, Northwest was primed to go on top in this affair…With 7:34 to play in the third quarter, Northwest moved out in front for the first time in this contest…Nolan Hagemann drilled a 21-yard field goal for the Vikings and as everyone looked up, Northwest was now leading Northern Guilford, 10-7…This game had become all about the kickers and the defense, and Northwest now had the advantage…Northwest had started the game with Ferrell Price at quarterback, and then the Vikings trotted out Anders Mitchell at QB for half number two, and Mitchell seemed to add a spark to the Vikes’ offense..Mitchell took a shot last week vs. Page, and sat out the entire first half tonight, but he and his Viking mates were making a difference out there in the second of this ballgame…

Northern Guilford keeps hanging around and NWG couldn’t find points to increase their lead, and NG really turned the keys to their bus over to their young driver Dwight Hall…It was carry after carry, after carry, after carry for Hall…The NG call was give the ball to Hall, and let him do it all…Well not all by Hall, but he did his fare share, we had him at 27 carries for 130 yards on the night…
(BIG blocking up front from Bagley and Swinney, anchoring that NG HogHawks/NightHogs offensive line…Those HogHawks/NightHogs are a big force up front for Northern Guilford HS.)

We mentioned give the ball to Hall, and he won’t fall, but let me tell y’all, he did do his fare share, but when NG had to get back there, it was not on a dare, they went straight to the air, and had NG QB Jaxson Kemp toss a short TD pass to CJ Morrison for the touchdown, and it only covered 12 yards, but it gave the NG Nighthawks the lead again, and it came with 3:12 left in the Third Q, and after Kobe Guardado added his perfect PAT kick, Northern found themselves back in front, 14-10…This was a lead that Northern would never give back…

Our score rundown was going NG over NWG, 7-0 end of the First Quarter…Game tied at 7-7, at halftime…Now as we reach the end of the Third Quarter, our score reads:Northern Guilford 14, Northwest Guilford 10

We hit the fourth quarter and raise Four Fingers in the air, and yell, “Four Horsemen”…No, we raise those four fingers in the air, and as an entire unit/squad/group/ensemble/team we yell in unison, “Fourth Quarter”…..

NG up 14-10, and this game is still hanging in the balance…We have watched on as these two defenses have battled it out all night long…NG finds the fight, and then find their groove with #24 Dwight Hall running the ball, and he runs it downfield and helps set up Northern for one last field goal attempt, and this might just ice this game….Kobe Guardado attempts a 20-yard FG this time, and Kobe kicks it through the uprights, and Northern extends their lead to 17-10 with just three minutes and thirty seconds left in the game…

Just 3:30 remaining and NG looks poised to break up that Northwest Guilford two-year winning streak…And they do…Pretty sure it was Kevin Willoughby again with his late pick and that kills the NWG Vikings chances at any comeback….

NG gets the ball late, and they hit the “Victory Formation”, and the Nighthawks’ QB Jaxson Kemp takes a knee twice, and before you can blink twice, this game is over….Northern Guilford claims the win, 17-10, over the Northwest Guilford Vikings…

Northern Guilford goes to (7-0/4-0), while Northwest Guilford falls to (5-2/2-2) for 2024….

We had Dwight Hall as the REMAX Revolution Player of the Game…27 carries for 134 yards, and one TD…Kevin Willoughby with the REMAX Revolution Play of the Game, and his play was that last pick/interception, the one I was just talking about, that last pick by Willoughby just about sealed this win for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…

For the game, Chance Crews with 12 Tackles/Sack/Interception for Northern….Kevin Willoughby with two/2 Interceptions for NG…Austin Jackson with 11 Tackles to pace the NWG “D”…Collyn Shokes with 7 tackles for NWG…Herb McNeal with an Interception for Northwest…NWG with 20 yards rushing from Rakem Hammock and Hammock returned a fumble 33 yards to set up an NWG TD…Nathan Cox rushed for 58 yards for NWG…McKinnly Vance with 42 rushing yards for NWG…Ferrell Price with 59 yards passing and Anders Mitchell threw for 29 yards for the Vikings…CJ Morrison with 37 receiving yards for NG…QB Jaxson Kemp had 75 yards passing and 74 yards rushing for Northern Guilford…Amare Akers with 24 yards on the ground for NG Nighthawks…

That gives you the wrap on Northern Guilford over Northwest Guilford on Friday night, from the R.L. Billings Stadium, at Northwest Guilford High School…

Here is the WRAP we have on the Western Guilford at Page game, with Page pulling it out, 28-27, and Demtri Morrison had the call of this game on GreensboroSports Radio 2, and I talked to Demetri after the game, and he was hyped…One of the most exciting games he had ever been around….
Page wins 28-27 in a barnburner.…The word from Regap with the Wrap:
Western was up 21-14 with 6 mins left in the 4th, kicked a field goal and missed it. Page takes next possession down to the 4 yard line, 4th down and hits on a slant pass for a TD. 21-21. Western’s first play from scrimmage after that Page’s Dy’vion Barley gets a pick-6 for a TD to make it 28-21. On the ensuing kick off, Western returns the kick 90 yards for a TD, the PAT attempt is backed up and turns into a 27 yarder, and is blocked by Page. Onside kick is recovered by Page. 28-27 Final.

Andy’s Picks for this week…So far going (13-1) and does anybody know the ROCK-HP Central score??? Last week was (12-1), and so far this season something like (87-9) or something like that…
