Was at the Grimsley win over Western Guilford, 63-0, and that was our only game this week, featuring two Guilford County teams…Grimsley now at (11-0) and Western finishes out their season, at (4-7)…
Now we will have a game featuring two Guilford County teams again next week, as the Whirlies will host the Southeast Guilford Falcons, who knocked off WS Reagan in Overtime, 46-45….You mean to tell me those SEG Falcons went on the road and defeated that Forsyth County team in OT??? Yes, because Guilford County its superior…
We(Guilford County) got the win again, and now SEG(7-4) will take that Falcon running game, with Ian McKinnon, Teriq McLaughlin, and their QB Alexander Marsh over to Jamieson Stadium next Friday night, where the Falcons will face the Grimsley Whirlies for the second time this 2024 season, with the only difference being, this time it is in “The Playoffs”…
Back on September 20, Grimsley defeated Southeast Guilford 49-7, in a game played at Southeast Guilford High School…Now the game moves over to the Whirlies home turf where Grimsley has not lost a game since back in 2022…Only loss for Grimsley last year, was the road playoff loss, at Weddington…Grimsley unbeaten at every stop this 2024 season…
And that Southeast Guilford bunch wins at Reagan…On the road as the #17 seed, SEG picks up the victory…And why should we really be surprised…Southeast head coach Earl Bates has made it a habit to lead his teams to huge playoff road wins…He did while he was Morehead, Southern Guilford, Northeast Guilford, and now he has done it again, this time while leading the Southeast Guilford Falcons…Earl Bates might be the master of huge road upsets, and road rage is his specialty…
SEG at Grimsley next Friday night and get your tickets early…Get connected with Grimsley AD Evan Fancourt, and be sure to have your seat secured for next Friday night’s next round/Round Two at Jamieson Stadium, with the SEG Falcons coming to town….They/the Falcons are out in Guilford County, at Forest Oaks/Pleasant Garden, and the Falcons will be coming to town in full Falcon Force next Friday night, November 22…Round Two action is looming large over there off of Josephine Boyd Blvd…
Grimsley and Southeast Guilford will try and draw blood from an onion next Friday night, while Guilford County still has a total of Five Teams left in the playoffs….Dudley ran past the Asheboro Blue Comets, 55-0, and on the Friday Football Fever highlights, I saw LJ Southern running for two Panther touchdowns, and CJ Neely was grabbing key passes that led to more Dudley TDs….
Northwest Guilford got a home win at RL Billings Stadium, where the NWG Vikings worked past Charlotte Olympic, 21-14…Had to be that NWG running game, led by Nathan Cox, McKinnly Vance, and Easton Dean, right??? Northern Guilford was a 21-20 victor over West Cabarrus…Good to see the NG Nighthawks moving on to Round Two, but getting the feeling they must be missing their junior QB Jackson Kemp, who is out for the rest of this season with a broken collar bone…
So we know about the SEG at Grimsley battle set for next week, but how about our other three GCC/Guilford County clubs/teams??? Well we see #26 seed Marvin Ridge(5-6) at #10 Northern Guilford(10-1)…Marvin Ridge upset #7 seed Asheville High School, 24-10, on Friday night in Round One, and that gives Northern two home games in the playoffs…Northwest Guilford took care of their business, and now the NWG Vikings will travel to Mooresville for Round Two of the playoffs, where they will face off with the (10-1) Mooresville Blue Devils…Mooresville, the number six seed in the 4-A West, topped #27 Alexander Central, 70-0, on Friday night in Round One…NWG the #11 seed at #6 Mooresville…Only loss of the season for Mooresville, was the Blue Devils falling to WS Reagan, 34-28, back on August 30….So NG at home vs. Marvin Ridge, and NWG on the road, headed to Mooresville…
The Dudley Panthers were picking up that 55-0 win over the Asheboro Blue Comets on Friday night, and now the DBoyz will turn their attention to the Asheville Reynolds Rockets(6-4), as the #5 Dudley Panthers tackle the #12 seed from the 3-A West, with AC Reynolds having disposed of Central Davidson, 37-7 in Round One…Asheville Reynolds only lost 28-21 to the West #1 seed, Erwin, in the regular season(2024)….Dudley lost to AC Reynolds on the Friday after Thanksgiving(at Dudley’s Tarpley Stadium) back around 2008, and that year, AC Reynolds went on to win the State 4-A title…
So here is how it shapes for the Guilford County teams next Friday night…..
Southeast Guilford(7-4) at Grimsley(11-0)
Marvin Ridge(5-6) at Northern Guilford(10-1)
Northwest Guilford(9-2) at Mooresville(10-1)
AC Reynolds from Asheville(6-4) at Dudley(11-0)……
I would say on these picks by Andy, that’s me by the way, I would just say, “Mama There Goes That Man Again”….Went (11-1) and the only loss was on the SEG overtime win over WS Reagan on the road….
Grimsley…WINNER
Watauga…WINNER
Palisades…WINNER…WINNER
Northern Guilford…WINNER
Northwest Guilford…WINNER
WS Reagan…Lost on this one…
JM Robinson…WINNER
Dudley…WINNER
Crest…WINNER
Monroe…WINNER
Reidsville…WINNER
Mountain Island Charter…WINNER
More info on the way….

1:13 Second Quarter:Brandon goes air again, hooking up with Battle for the second time tonight, this time it was a 17-yard TD catch by Battle…PAT Kick by Henry good…Grimsley 49, WG 0
Halftime:Grimsley 49, Western Guilford 0

End of Third Quarter:Grimsley 56, Western Guilford 0
11:59 Fourth Quarter:We watch as Grimsley freshman Ty Shoemake makes a bold dash down the right sideline, and he takes to the Field House, just beyond the West end zone…Paydirt for Shoemake after his 59-yard TD run…Henry is good again on his PAT Kick….Grimsley 63, WG 0
Final Score:Grimsley 63, Western Guilford 0
Grimsley was dominant, but a couple of key plays early in the game, sure hurt the hopes of the Hornets…Mitchell Summers going for the right pylon on the opening drive of the game for Grimsley, and it looked like he fumbled the ball, right as he was hitting the one yard line, and that WG had recovered the ball in the end zone, but the official closest to the play, said Summers was out-of-bounds at the one-yard line…Next play, Summers took it home for the Touchdown…
Later, but still early in the first quarter, Western Guilford QB Caleb Moore threw a pass to his back out of the backfield, Elijah Hayes, and Hayes was in the process of completing the catch, but he never made that true football move up the field, after he got the ball in his hands, and the ball came out and was loose, and Grimsley’s Drew Searls recovered the football and took it down to the two-yard line…The loose football was ruled a fumble, but it looked like all the way, it was an incomplete pass by Western Guilford, and WG should have retained possession…
But, those two plays got Grimsley going, and the Whirlies never looked back…WG was in there early, but Grimsley wore the Hornets down, and then put the WG Horents away…..
Player of the Game:Grimsley’s QB Faizon Brandon…Brandon with 4 Touchdown passes and 1 TD running…Faizon Brandon with well over 200 yards passing for the game, and he did that in just One Half of action…Brandon did not play at all in the Second Half…Cayden Zellous took over at QB for Grimsley in the Second Half…
Play of the Game:TIE…Faizon Brandon’s 40-yard TD run up the middle for Grimsley, early in the Second Quarter…Plus this one got the fans jumping too…From our TIE, we see Ty Shoemake’s 59-yard TD run up the right sideline, for Grimsley’s last score of the game…Shoemake, just a freshman, and he has a very promising career with the Grimsley Whirlies football team….Electrifying runs by both Brandon and Shoemake…
Western Guilford Hornet getting it Done:The Hornets’ punter, he did an outstanding job all night long, and he must have had at least 10-12 punts on the night…We had him listed as Xavier Dixon, and will check and make sure that is correct, but the WG punter was their key element in this contest…Did a Super Job…
**********Also we want to send out Special Recognition to Ed Hampton, the Equipment Manager for the Grimsley Whirlies…He has been working with Grimsley head coach Daryl Brown, since Coach Brown was a high school football player at Southern Guilford High School…Ed Hampton the equipment manager for the Southern Guilford Storm/Indians, and he has been with the Grimsley Whirlies since Coach Brown arrived at Grimsley HS….Congratulations to Mr. Ed Hampton, for being recognized on Friday night, at the Grimsley football game, and Ed Hampton has been named Equipment Manager Emeritus for the Grimsley Whirlies…You sir, Ed Hampton, have done the job, and to you sir, Mr. Hampton, we say, “A Job Well Done”…..***********

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Let’s add this into our post, for those who might miss the Comments, and a VERY good game report on Southeast Guilford’s OT win at Reagan, from GetOffMyLawn…
The Southeast Guilford vs Reagan game was one for the ages. SE was down 28-17 at one point, but battled back to tie it in regulation. The fourth quarter was crazy. Southeast tied the game with just a couple of minutes left in the clock, but Reagan ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown. It appeared to be OVA!! However, Southeast had a solid drive that was helped tremendously by a huge set of penalties on Reagan. I believe they had a late hit penalty and another penalty assessed on the same down. Southeast was able to punch it in with 21 seconds remaining in regulation. Southeast appeared to recover an on-sides kick, but the ball went to Reagan. Reagan was not able to advance the ball and the game went to overtime. Reagan scored on its possession and kicked a field goal. Southeast scored as well and appeared to be ready to kick the extra point, but a timeout was called. After the timeout Southeast sends the offense on the field. This is what the Southeast fans had been clambering for the entire fourth quarter…go for it. Marsh took the snap, rolled to his left and boom, completed pass, game over in a stunner. Reagan appeared to have the advantage in physical size, but Southeast competed and showed true grit. Congrats to the Falcons and good luck next week against Grimsley.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
