In the girls game, Montana and Sides were the difference-makers for the NWG Vikings…Both of these kids are freshmen, but you wouldn’t know if you see them, and you really have to see them, to believe what you are hearing…Montana at the point, and Sides at the two guard, and Montana can bring it down, dish it off and then get the ball back and hit her three 3s in rhythm/stride…Sides drives and uses the square to knock down her left and right side layups, and very strong, as she goes hard to her right…
Both of those kids have one of those things the coaches at the upper levels call the “High Ceiling”…They will be taking the elevator to the 12th floor by the time they hit their senior years…Watch out for Montana and Sides, they may become the young female version of Stockton and Malone, and one is for certain friends, as Jim Nantz would say….
You are going to hear a lot out of those two(Sides and Montana), at Northwest Guilford, for the next four years…
Lucky for me/us, I have seen Tyren Martin, from the Page Pirates, in his full glory, more than once in recent years….And I saw it/him going off again tonight, in the Page Pirates’ win at Northwest Guilford…
Jackson Fancourt, the young son of former Page head boys coach, and now the AD at Grimsley High School, well Jackson always had a great saying…And that saying was/is, “You Want To See Me Do It Again?”…Well, Tyren Martin didn’t wait for the answer, he just did it again…He “did it again” and put up one of his outstanding basketball game performances…
For Tyren Martin it was eleven 2s, a three-pointer, and 7 made Free Throws on the night, that led to his 32-point outburst…And Martin’s best stuff came in the fourth and final quarter…He was the go-to man for Page and he hit six of his seven made Free Throws late in the contest…Mr. Smooth, as our old pal Rodney Mitchell used to say…That was Tyren Martin on this night…
Maybe he was just getting warmed up for the Grimsley Whirlies who come over to Page, to take on the Pirates on Friday night, unless they move the game up to Thursday night…Either way, on Tuesday Mr. Martin was just startin’ to do his part in, what it takes to get ‘The Win’…
NWG had no answer for Martin, and Tyren was getting some great complimentary help from Pierson Murphy, Lucas Schwab, Ike Grainger, Kasi Poindexter, and Porter Davis…Some of these guys names I know, from back in their days, with the St. Pius Comets Middle School team…Page was in their finishing-mode on Tuesday night, and you have to give it up to the Pirates, they closed that game out…
Conner Nix, for the NWG Vikings, had some very good moments in this game, and he finished it up with his team-leading 16 points, but he got hit with a technical foul in the third quarter and had to sit down for a while, and he never was really the same, after he re-entered the game…
NWG was trying to drop some passes into the post late in the game, but those passes were off the mark, and Page turned those errant passes into points off of turnovers…You had to say Northwest Guilford out-played Page for three quarters on this night, but the Vikes fell short when it mattered most, as they saw the Page Pirates take over, and Page took the quarter that mattered the most, that Fourth and Final Quarter/Period…Of a team, you might say that they didn’t get it done until the final stanza, but that has to be the best time to answer the Bell/Horn, and put your opponent away, and walk away with the Victory, and that is what Page did/was able to do tonight/Tuesday….
We are hearing Page at Northwest Guilford is a Done Deal for tonight, with girls at 6/boys at 7:30pm…Lots of people headed in that direction….
