Grimsley boys win by 14, and Grimsley girls are victorious by 15 points…Both games very close in the first half….The shot by Grimsley’s Henry Trent was the “Shot Heard Round the World”, at least on the World Wide Web, and GreensboroSports Radio…It as a three-quarter court shot, and he was still deep in the backcourt as he let it loose with 1.2 seconds on the first half clock…Kasai Poindexter had worked the clock down to right at 2.7 seconds remaining in the half, as he took and missed his right side layup, and Grimsley gets the rebound off of the Poindexter miss, and the ball is in Trent hands as lets it rip, and his 3/4 of the court heave goes waaaaaaay up court and IN…It was in the air, and there must have been a prayer sent up somewhere, because that shot by Trent, ended up being “Heaven Sent”, and it put a big Dent in the Page Pirates hopes for winning the game in Grimsley’s Bob Sawyer Gymnasium…

That Henry Trent shot was “The Shot of the Game”, “The Shot of the Week”, “The Shot of the Month”, and “The Shot of the Year”, all rolled into one…You might just say, “It was just a shot, but NOT, that shot gave Grimsley momentum that was jumping off The Charts…That shot sent Page into a very slow start in the second half…That shot by Henry Trent did wonders for the Whirlies, and it broke the back of the Page Pirates…

Things could have been going different there at the end of that first half…As Kasai Poindexter attempted his late first half layup, the score was Grimsley 31, Page 28…If Poindexter converts on his layup, the score would have been, Grimsley 31, Page 30….So Poindexter misses, and somehow Grimsley’s Trent makes the miracle a reality, and with his shot, what could have been a 31-30, one point halftime advantage for Grimsley, the Trent Heaven Sent Shot makes the halftime score, Grimsley 34, Page 28, and the Whirlies are leading by 6, instead of one point…That turns out to be a five-point turnaround right there…Grimlsey by one, NO Grimsley by six…

The intent by Trent, was make sure the shot he sent, put a Dent in the Page Pirates chances to win over the Whirlies, and for Trent and Grimsley, there goes Clark Kent, and here comes Henry Trent, and Superman just flew through the building/gymnasium….

Also some very key rebounding work on the night from Kaden Catoe around both the offensive and defensive boards for Grimsley…Catoe was not going to denied on many of his shots…He was at the right place, at right time, on most occasions…Freshman Isaiah Whitsett, gets it for the Whirlies…Whitsett gets it done…Three 3s for Whitsett in the game, and Trent was able to connect on four treys…And none bigger than the one that ended the first half…

One other Whirlie whose efforts might get lost in the shuffling of the papers, is Sherrod White…Going against White was like playing with a stick of Dy-Na-Mite on this night, as White was making sure his game was out-of-sight and just right…He bodied up, he got key rebounds and his work around the basket was very helpful to the Whirlie cause…

Page was able to hang most of the way in the first half with Grimsley, but that final shot by Trent was one that skint the Pirates, and for the most part, took the wind out of the Page Pirates sails…Page has a pretty nice rotation rolling their way right now, but the Pirates are having trouble finishing in key situations…Got to finish around the basket, and the taller players are taking the oustside three-point shots, and they are away from the basket, so they better make sure they make those longer shots, or there will be trouble, since nobody is in there to rebound any of their misses, and for the most part you have another bad case of, “One and Done”…That’s one shot and done…

If Tyren Martin can find his major stroke again for Page, then Pirates would have a chance to maybe make some noise in the Metro 4-A Conference Tournament…Otherwise, the doors will be closing fast at the Mac Morris Gym…Was very good to see Kasai Poindexter back with the Pirates tonight, since he was missing at home back on Tuesday, vs. Northwest Guilford HS….

The Grimsley girls got a big/huge boost from Sanaya Blount’s outside shooting in the second half…So, Grimsley is up by just five points at halftime, with the score being 25-20 Grimsley….Then here comes Sanaya Blout, and she hit four straight shots from beyond the arc, and you can hear the Whrirlies starting to bark, like a pack of wild and loose dogs…

Blount hit four-of-five second half three-point shots, and she added a two point field goal, and she totaled 14 points scored for the game…Blount as AWOL with her first half scoring for the Whirlies, as she didn’t scratch…Nada for Sanaya in the first 16 minutes of the contest, but the second half was for sure, a different story…

Shyla Simms took game-high scoring honors for the Grimsley Whirlies with her 22 points, but along with the 14 from the hot three-point shooting Blount, Grimsley got 11 points and good floor work from Alyssa Graves…Not sure if she is any relation to Kevin or Ty, but she sure has a good eye, when it comes to all range shooting, and she rebounds well too….Also got to get some props out there to Railyn Lineberry, as she was heavily involved in the Whirlies progressive ball movement, and she helped make sure Grimsley was using the sidelines and corners the right way, in the Whirlies passing/spacing scheme…

And more props going up to for Xariah Simmons…Excellent defensive work turned in by the freshman, and former Kernodle Cougar, as she part of the Guilford County Girls Championship team last season, when the Cougars knocked off Northwest Guilford…Simmons has length, and I have met dad and he must be around 6’7, and played goal keeper for a soccer team out of the Islands a few years back…Simmons was making it tough on guard Lola Vanore from Page…Lola was able to score 24 points, with 16 of her total points coming her/Lola’s way in the second half…Lola knew she had been in a battle, after facing off with Simmons…

Assyria Hooper was a scratch for the Page Pirates on this Friday night, but I was very impressed with how Ansley Bode stepped up for the Bucs/Pirates…Bode was doing all kinds of things, and she hit some big bank shots on the inside, with some good setup passes coming her way from Vanore, and it is one thing to see the Vanore pass coming, and another thing to catch the pass on your first attempt…Bode was playing clean, and she was successful…Now she has to suit up and do the same thing and MORE, next Tuesday night for the Pirates…

Page also got another boost when Porsha Thompson got the start in place of Hooper and although Thompson was no Michael Cooper, she did play her role well and was able to help the Page Pirates…Page only had five players scoring, and the bulk of the scoring will continue to fall in the hands of Lola Vanore, but at least two or three more Pirates are going to need to step up and help with the point production…Got to get Emma Pyrtle to the basket more, and make sure she is taking 2-3 footers and not dwelling outside, around that Twilight or Twitter Zone, where you look at your phone, and see if the shot is coming home…

Blout made sure Grimsley had a key spark that ignited the Whirlies second half surge, into a lead that nobody could catch….Simms has really given Grimsley a hard attacking guard this season, who wears #5 and she can come alive at any during the 32-minute battle…

Will be looking to add in the Conference Standings later Today/Saturday, so be looking out for those….We can get caught up on all our team records when the Ws and Ls show up on Saturday….
