Smith boys 50, Dudley 48
One of the more Emotional Games you will ever see…A game full of changes, with Dudley’s CJ Neely driving the basket and scoring on a 2 with 11.9 seconds left in the game….Smith had just turned the ball over to Dudley after a Double-Dribble call on Smith…With Dudley up 48-47, and just those 11.9 seconds left in regulation, Smith gets the ball in Jyi Dawkins hands and he drives into the Smith lane, and he gets cut off by the Dudley defense, so kicks a pass to the deep left corner, where Smith’s Kadyn Turner-Scott lets go with a long three-point shot, and the ball released from the left side goes across the rim, it hits on the right side of the rim, and then kicks back across to the left side of the rim, before going up in the air and coming straight back down through the basket for a Huge Made Three-Point Basket….That was “The Shot” right there…Dudley had time for one more look/shot with 2.1 seconds left, before they added just a little more time, and it was then Dudley ball with 3.3 seconds left and the Panthers’ CJ Neely got off a shot from the right side of the basket and it was a long three that missed its mark, and the Smith defense was all over him, and Neely’s shot missed, and the Game Was Over….Smith comes to Dudley High School and the Golden Eagles walk away with a 50-48 Round Three Playoff Victory….Dudley was down by as many as 16 points in the second half, but to the Panthers credit they made a big-time run behind Neely, CJ Jones, Lashawn Speller, and Kameron McNeil…In the end Smith picked up the win, and the Eagles never gave up their goal of winning this ballgame…Smith stayed the course and they move on to Round Three of the NCHSAA Playoffs…
We saw one of those Game of the Week, Game of the Month, and Game of the Year Candidates tonight, over at Dudley HS…And the finish is what made this game so Sweet/so Good…That was some of the most interesting basketball in those final minutes, that you will ever witness…A true Classic Finish to this contest….
