Baseball Earns 8-2 Victory Against Radford to Open Series
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team picked up an 8-2 win over the Radford Highlanders to open a three-game non-conference weekend series on Friday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The Spartans got it done with excellent pitching from Sam Murchison, who pitched six complete innings and matched a season-high with nine strikeouts, and Mayson Dear, who pitched three innings in relief to earn his second save of the season.

After the bases loaded up with Spartans in the second, Jose Perez roped a two-run double into the right-field corner, allowing Luke Jenkins and Luke Holland to score. Zachary Walsh then scored from third on a throw that was off target to home. Trey Truitt rounded out the scoring by chopping an RBI single to first, which allowed Perez to score from third. After two innings, the Spartans led the Highlanders, 4-0.

Radford scored its first run on an infield throwing error during the fourth inning to cut the Spartans’ lead to 4-1. However, Jacob Dilley hit his first collegiate home run, a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, to push UNCG’s lead back to four, 5-1.

In the fifth frame, the Highlanders had a run cross the plate via a sacrifice fly batted out to right by James Ward. Radford still trailed UNCG, 5-2, after five innings in the Gate City.

The Spartans tacked on two more runs during the seventh when Luke Holland lined a single into left, which scored Truitt and Parker Wight and made it 7-2.

Truitt plated the final run of the afternoon during the eighth inning when he flew out deep enough to left for Dilley to score on a sacrifice fly, which capped the scoring at 8-2.
