The Smith Golden Eagles are the NCHSAA Men’s 3-A West Regional Champions, after Monday night’s 71-57 victory over the Hunter Huss Huskies…Smith now moves on and the Golden Eagles from Ben L. Smith High School will play for the 3-A Men’s State Championship on Friday, at the LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem N.C.
Smith now at (28-3) on the season, and the Huss Hukies closed out their season, at (20-9)….Smith was paced by Jyi Dawkins on Monday night, was the Smith junior scored 24 points, and he grabbed 12 rebounds…Smith also got very solid scoring from Kenny Miller Jr., and Miller Jr. also collected double-digit rebounds…
(Ben L. Smith wins the ballgame, 71-57, over the Hunter Huss Huskies.)
You might as well go back and listen to some of the game when you get a chance, and it is playing back now at GreensboroSportsRadio…..Good game action, plus numbers and stats, and we even had a chance to speak with Jyi Dawkins and Kenny Miller Jr. when the game was over….Remember the game is Game On, at
GreensboroSports Radio…
When the game was over, Ben L. Smith seniors Tayshawn Mann and Micah Cowan went out and accepted the hardware for the victorious Golden Eagles…Very impressive with those two selected to go and represent the team…

End of First Quarter:Smith 18, Huss 18…Halftime:Smith 39, Huss 32…End of Third Quarter:Smith 49, Huss 42…Final Score:Smith 71, Huss 57
Ben L. Smith playing some wild games over the past week…Last Tuesday, it was Smith over Dudley, 50-48…Last Friday night, Smith wins at Crest, 61-58 in OT, and then Tonight at the LJVM, Smith claims the West Regional Title, taking down the Huss Huskies…
Smith Scoring:Jyi Dawkins 24 points and 12 rebounds/11-13 FTs…Kenny Miller Jr. 21 pts./7 rebounds/5-5 FTs…Gavin Palmore 10 pts./9 rebounds…Micah Cowan 7 pts., Ty’sere Payne 6 pts., Tayshawn Mann 3 pts….Smith was 28-34 from the Free Throw line, and Smith out-rebounded Huss, 45-32…
Huss Scoring:Jaleel Smith, a freshman with 19 points and 15 rebounds…Worthy 14 points, with Four 3s…Phillips 10 pts.
Huss was 5-12 for the game from the Free Throw Line, and the Huskies were way off in the second half, and I do think this hurt them, as they went 4-11 at the Foul Line in the second half….
Really feel like Ben L. Smith’s free throw shooting and their rebounding were key factors in the game, and those two area went a long way in helping them to get this win….The Smith Defense was causing Huss problems all night long…..Smith came out tough defensively, and they get even tougher on defense as the game wore and went on…You could see Smith hitting the floor going for loose balls and fighting to get the steals and the big takeaways…
Smith was on, and now on to the Championship Game on Friday vs. the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability from Durham….#2 seed Southern School of Energy and Sustainability defeated #1 Swansboro, 78-65, to claim the NCHSAA East Regional Title on Monday, in Winston-Salem…Smith at (28-3) vs. SSES(30-3) on Friday at the LJVM Coliseum, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
