Coach Ed Johnson, you hate to lose the good ones, he was one of those good teachers, good coaches, and just an overall good person….
Coach Johnson’s girls basketball coaching career…..
73-117 at Page. 114 and 177 overall.
Coach Johson told us:
Was lucky to be able to coach in the same games as Darlene Joyner, Kim Furlough and of course against Debbie Jones before I came to Page.
Also had the good fortune to coach against some great players like Elissa Cunane, Liz Kitley, Paris Kea and the young lady at UNC now, Blanca Thomas.
Had some really good kids like Reagan Maynard, Hattie Sloyan, Sutton Sherrill, Jillian and Emma Heard, Anna Schmedes, Harmony Simpson, Symphony Jackson, DJ Jackson and countless others who I had the good fortune to get to know and coach.
Some really good kids still there like Lola Vanore, Mason Grainger, Emma Pyrtle, Porsha Thompson and Ansley Bode who should be pretty good next year.
Was planning on retiring in 2 years as I felt like that would be a good time to step away.
Very grateful to many who helped me get into coaching like Freddy Johnson and James Abell. Also Rob McCullough who gave me my first varsity head coaching job at Smith and Rusty Lee who brought me over to Page.
Wish my record had been better but enjoyed coaching basketball very much and will miss it.
At least my last game at home the team played their best game of the year and had one of the bigger wins of my tenure at Page when we beat a good Northern Guilford team.
Forgot to mention Rachel Clark who I coached against when I was at Smith and Page. Really good coach and someone I consider a friend. Loved competing against her teams as I felt she was one of the best around and should still be coaching.
I enjoyed working with Ed when he and I were both coaching at Page. He brought much positivity to his classes and his teams. Good guy and the type of educator that we need more of in the profession.
Wishing the best for Coach Ed Johnson. Hard worker and helped a lot of kids.
