Radford Defeats UNCG Softball, 1-0
RADFORD, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Radford 1-0 on Wednesday at Radford Softball Stadium in a non-conference pitcher’s duel.
UNCG fell to 30-11 overall and Radford improved to 22-19.
With one out in the top of the first, Grace Loftin tallied UNCG’s first hit of the game, a single to left field, but Radford retired the side with a double play.
The Highlanders put their own hit on the board in the bottom of the first, but stranded two runners on base.
The Spartans turned their own double play in the bottom of the second after Radford saw Kelley Feigen single to lead off.
After a scoreless third inning, Radford pushed across one run in the bottom of the fourth for a 1-0 lead.
Following a lead-off single and a walk, both runners advanced on stolen bases to get in scoring position for Amber Wolfe’s RBI single up the middle. The base hit scored Emily Smith before Cassi Barbato was tagged out at the plate as the trailing runner.
Both teams saw a runner on base in the sixth and Radford held on for a 1-0 win in the top of the seventh.
NOTES:
Loftin had UNCG’s lone hit.
Jorde Chartrand pitched 5.0 scoreless frames out of her 6.0 innings of work.
She struck out three batters.

The Spartans will host Samford on Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Saturday’s schedule will include a doubleheader with a first pitch at 1:00 p.m., while there will be a single game on Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m.
